The War of Spanish Succession... French Command.

Greetings...

So here we have the first of my French Command...

I haven't tried to paint these up as any particular personality... They have been painted in classic Blue Coats with Red or Blue facings...I really like this combination as it makes the gold 'pop' nicely.

The horses were painted using a couple of coats of Citadel Contrast Colours over...
Army Painter Brown Fur ( https://shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=15)
with Gore-Grunta Fur for the Brown horse and...
Halfords Grey Primer ( https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-body-repair/car-spray-paints/halfords-primer-grey-500ml) with Black Templar for the Black ...
The Coats are... Citadel Kantor Blue... With a wash of Contrast Leviadon Blue.
The Red Facings are... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet... With a wash of Contrast Blood Angel Red.
The Gold Braid is... Citadel... Retributor Armour Plus Troll Slayer Orange... Then given a wash of Aly's Brown Liquid... This is highlighted with the original colour then given a final highlight with the original colour plus some Foundry Boneyard Light 9C.

Belts ,Flesh and white bits ware all painted in my normal way... Basecoat... Aly's Brown Liquid and re-highlight.

A pleasing little group I think...

The War Of Spanish Succesion... French Infantry Regiment Reding Allemand.

Greetings...

Yet another French regiment for this collection...
I have to say that the reason I picked this unit has nothing to do with its illustrious career or its truly unusual uniform...

Its the STANDARD!

They spent most of their time in Spain..

Montmelian... 1705.
Barcelona, Carthagena, Almaza... 1707.
Mequimenca, Lerida, Tortosa... 1708.
Balaguer... 1709.
Gerona... 1710-11.
Barcelona...  1714.

And they had a lovely Standard...

Lovely Standard...

Coat and Waistcoat... Citadel... Caledor Sky.
Cuffs... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet.
Belts... Citadel... Balor Brown.
Musket/wooden bits/powder flask... Citadel ...Mournfang Brown
Ammunition pouches and scabbards... Citadel ... Skrag Brown
White Bits... Citadel... Pallid Wych Flesh.

The miniatures are as always Front Rank...

The lovely standard was made by me based on the Robert Hall plate from the Pike And Shot Society book...
Flags and Uniforms of the French Infantry under Louis XIV 1688-1714.

Zulus to the southwest... thousands of 'em.

Well...Thirty of 'em.

This little scene from the film Zulu should get you in the mood...

"Zulus to the southwest... Thousands of 'em"

I recently offered to paint up a unit of Zulus for Michael Perry... Partly to help him get the thousands of 'em that he needs but mostly as an excuse to try out some more contrast paints to see how well they would work with African skin.
I have aimed for a nice rich brown tone...One that reflects the skin colour of The Zulu People but also one that looks good on 28mm miniatures.

The miniatures were first given an undercoat of The Army Painter Fur Brown...

https://shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=15

Next up...
Two coats of undiluted Contrast Guilliman Flesh... You could add more if you want but liked the way this looked.
 https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Guilliman-Flesh-2019

The next stage was to block in the rest of the colours...

The shield front... Vallejo Model Colour... 981 Orange Brown.
The shield rear and necklace decoration... Citadel... Tallarn Sand.
The loin cloth and leopard skin head band... Citadel... Balor Brown.
The monkey tails... Citadel... Stormvermin Fur.
Necklace and waistband... Foundry... 9B Boneyard.
Spear staffs and clubs... Citadel... Rhinox Hide.
Plumes, leg and shield decoration... Citadel... Pallid Wych Flesh.
Hair and circlets... Citadel... Abaddon Black.

Everything is given a coat of Aly's Brown Liquid then - apart from the skin - re-highlighted with the original colours.

I based them up to fit in with the rest of Michael's collection using Citadel Texture Agrellan Badland and some static grass tufts...

I am afraid that this picture is a bit out of focus...
I only noticed it after I had given Michael the miniatures.

An enjoyable diversion which didn't really take that much time...
