ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Partizan… 2025.

Greetings…
So it’s only taken over a week for me to post the pictures of my flying visit to Partizan last week.(18th May)…
All the usual things have gotten in the way… Life , Work and Health… Yes… good old Health…The eye is starting to improve a bit… but the rest of me is a wreck 🤣🙀🤣…
I blame a lot of my aches and pains on the weather…I think we are having four seasons a day at the moment… And they are all grey ,grey, grey grey.🙄

So…
Here are some pictures of the games that caught my eye…
First up a lovely Wars of the Roses game from The Bodkins…

Next up…
A Peninsular War game from The Perrys…

Alan tells me these are Horreros…

And now The League of Augsburg…
The Dutch Invasion of Hispaniola…

Next… Eastern Front 1941.
From the Derby Wargames Society (I Think).

And finally…
Wake Island… Or maybe a version of Wake Island…
From…
The League of Extraordinary Kreigspielers…

My loot for the day…
If I had more time and more energy I am sure I would have got a lot more…
My butterfly was disappointed but my wallet was delighted 🤣😂🤣

Time constraints meant I couldn’t judge the Tabletop Vignette competition… So I don’t know who the winner was…
But… My vote would have been for this…

A beautiful Sassanid Command Stand…
I believe from The Bradley Barn Wargames Group…

So there you go… A short but enjoyable visit and many thanks to Alessandro for giving me a lift and to Lorenzo for buying me Ice Cream…

It was apparently one of the busiest Partizans ever… It certainly looked like it…

My only gripe would be a lack of comfy seating for grumpy old gentleman like me.. And cakes 😁

All the best.  Aly

  1. Your photos echo my favourite games, I concur on the Sassanids vignette. I am pleased you posted it apart from an overall shot I neglected to return to take more when the crowd thinned out. Are you sure that's all you bought? Your bag seemed a lot heavier 😁

    1. The Sassanid vignette was indeed lovely… I too would have liked to take/see more pictures of it…
It’s the half dozen tanks that put the extra weight in the bag…😁

  2. It was a good show. I think the Wake Island one was my favourites - think it was an imaginary attack in about 1937 or something?

    1. A good show indeed Rob…
I think Wake may even have been set in the late 20’s…
      It was very good..

  3. Aly,
Didn't spot you but then it was, as you say very b-u-s-y.....
I was on a whistle stop tour as well; by the time I'd taken about 50 photos I was flagging.....never mind a chair I could have done with a lie down! ( in the cool marquee preferably!)
Purchases look interesting - early war British armour? 28mm?
There was a nice 15mm Operation Battleaxe game....as well as VBCW.
So which is the butterfly being drawn to?☺

I did have a wee lie down when I got home 🤣

The butterfly is being drawn towards the lands of Syldavia and Borduria…
      I blame Mark Copplestone 😆

  4. Some great pics there Aly...love all the games you picked to include!
You old guys are ALL complaining about the lack of seating....in another ten years, you will be expecting the venue to provide care givers to wheel you round and feed you lunch...lol 😉 😀

  5. Some cracking game on show that's for sure and your loot haul is not too shabby, I must get the Marian Civil War book, enjoyed reading Stuarts research on his blog when he was doing it, he is a big miss that's for sure.

I of course highly recommend Stuart’s Book… I’ve just finished reading it and it was very enjoyable and informative…
He was a good friend and he will indeed be sorely missed…

    1. I’m sure we will see a great comfy chair rebellion…
Grey haired Wargamers shuffling their way to man the ( hopefully) comfy barricades…
      🤣🤣🤣

I saw you across the room…camera in hand and snapping away😁

  10. It did seem busy, saw you a couple of times but you seemed deep in conversation, so I didn't want to interupt! Nice haul of Napoleonic cavalry and armour, that book looks great, probably best I didn't see it in the flesh!

Deep in conversation and resting my aching bones would be a more accurate description…

  15. The Sassanid camp does look like a lot of work has gone into it, it's just such a shame that camp vignettes like this so often get perched on the edge of the table making it hard to take a good photo.

  16. Cheers for sharing your photos of Wild Geese and Partizan Aly.
I was heartbroken that I could not make the "Wild Geese " weekend this year, share a couple of beers with you, some great games and good food.
    Roll on next year.

    Willz.
