Shiny Napoleonics... Prussian Infantry.

Greetings...

Here we have the next shiny addition to this collection...

The 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment No.6...

I picked these up on eBay knowing that I would be stripping them... I have to admit that even I was surprised at the ‘sculptural’ thickness of the paint...
It took three goes to get them down to the metal.... I am glad I made the effort ( I say effort but all I was doing was dropping them in a jar of Dettol)...

I didn’t have any command with shako covers, so they were added with ‘Green Stuff ‘ putty.

So why did I paint this particular unit....   They have a pretty flag.

I think that they have turned out rather well... I have enough figures (now undercoated) for another battalion and I think I will also paint them up as the 1st West Prussian... they get a mostly green and red flag...

The Tunics are... Citadel... Kantor Blue with a diluted wash of Contrast Leviadon Blue.
Trousers and Greatcoats... Citadel... Administratum Grey.
The Trousers were given a wash of slightly diluted Contrast Gryph Charger Grey and highlighted with diluted Administratum.
The Greatcoats were given a couple coats of slightly diluted Contrast Basilicanum Grey followed by a very diluted highlight of Administratum.
The Water Bottles and Greatcoat Guards are... Citadel... Skrag Brown.
The Facings are... Citadel... Mephisto Red.
The Turnbacks are... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet.
The Shoulder Straps... Citadel... Pallid Wych Flesh.
The Muskets and Packs... Citadel... Mournfang Brown.
The Musket Straps are... Vallejo... Cavalry Brown. (I keep forgetting I have this colour... it’s lovely).
The Belts are... Citadel Corax White.
Everything apart from the Tunics,Trousers and Greatcoats was given a wash of Aly’s Brown Liquid and highlighted with the original shade... the Belts were taken up to Pure White.

The paints are Citadel and Vallejo Model Color

Next time some Sassanids...

Franco-Prussian War... Bavarian Infantry.

Greetings...

My little game with Mharaid has encouraged me to finish of this battalion of Bavarian Infantry which has been sat at the back of the desk for over a year now...
After all that patient waiting they deserve to have their shiny new uniforms...

The Uniforms are... Wargames Foundry... Sky Blue 21B.
The Facings are... Wargames Foundry... Ochre 4B
The Piping is... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet.
The Knapsacks and the Officers Gloves are... Citadel... Pallid Wych Flesh.
The Backpacks are... Citadel... Skrag Brown.
The Greatcoats are... Wargamers Foundry... Slate Grey Shade 32A.
The Rifles are... Citadel... Mournfang Brown.

Everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid then highlighted with the original shades...
I am glad I took the time to finish these... I honestly don’t know why I was putting them off for so long...
I may actually get around to painting the other two battalions...

The figures are of course Spencer Smith Classic Range FPW...

The Standard is from the old Flags for the Lads Range... I am not sure if they are available anymore...

I have some more shiny things and Sassanids on the go at the moment... we will see who crosses the finishing post first...

All the best.  Aly

From my side of the table... Lockdown Franco-Prussian frolics.

Greetings...

Mharaid and I had another lockdown game using FaceTime...

This time we went for The Franco-Prussian War using Black Powder...

The objective was to take control of a crossroads... a result which I was surprisingly able to achieve and the quite predictably able to loose in the process of the game... sigh!

The peaceful crossroads...

Our troops entered the table in march column...

Through outrageous good fortune my men arrived on the battlefield first and moved rapidly forwards to consolidate my position...

While my daughter failed spectacularly to make any moves... for five... yes five turns...
All she had to do was roll below 8....
Even with added bonuses she consistently rolled high...
Five turns...
Have the dice gods abandoned her...
Do they now look kindly on me...

Don’t be ridiculous... they were just playing with me.... The  bast***s!

Seeing and opportunity I went all Glory of France and rushed forwards out off my very defendable position in an attempt to hem the Prussians in at their entry point...

Here you are, the only units that obeyed their orders... sigh!....
Yup!.... you can see where this is going... can’t you...

And on they come...

A firefight ensues...
Well to be honest... I rolled some dice and some of them hit...
Mharaid rolled some dice... and most of then hit...

My (Very pretty) Guard Lancers prepared to charge...

While the now luck heavy Prussians poured fire into my somewhat isolated troops...
A red button indicates a broken unit...
No surprises there then... sigh!

The only respite was when Mharaid’s broken cavalry got in the way...
Small victories... take them when you can... sigh!

In a desperate attempt to save the situation my cavalry managed to get around the flank of the enemy...

Where they were slaughtered... although they still look very pretty...
The laundry bill will be terrifying...

My infantry started to evaporate and even my artillery decided it was time to leave...

With over 50% of my force broken... I of course graciously conceded the game...

Sigh!

This was a lot of fun... and it did swing in the balance for a couple of moves (honestly it did... well it felt like it did)
The break point of our forces was 50% including artillery because we only fielding a few units each...
It worked well...
The numbers were there to make it easier for orders to be given in the virtual world...

I suppose I should have stayed still and let Mharaid try and force me out of my very defensible position...
But where would the fun be in that...

All the best.  Aly

Three Years Old...

Yes... Three years....

It actually feels like a lot longer... mind you the last six months feel like a decade...

Hobby wise... I think this year has been really good (apart from the recent lack of games)...
I am not going to give everyone a detailed breakdown of everything I have done ... but here are a few thoughts...

My main (for the moment) projects have moved on steadily...
The Spanish War of Succession.
Shiny Napoleonics.
3rd Century Rome
And my various Drums and Shako's collections are all looking good...

They will of course never be finished...

I have a nice Little Fantasy/Bronze Age project up and running which I am enjoying immensely.

I have shelved the idea of doing The French Revolution.. not because I don't like it ...I just think that it needs more investment than my butterfly will allow at the moment (wow! did I just say that)

Temptations.... yes... there are many...
I still have a lot of love for Napoleons Egyptian Campaign and The First Carlist War...
The Shiny 42mm 1830's Germans are still there... I have actually done a little bit of sculpting in that direction but it is still a fair way off...
We will have to see what the butterfly says...

I have really enjoyed and appreciated all the support and comments from everyone (humans that is...).

Lets hope that the next year is only interesting on the wargames table...

Take care and look after yourselves...

All the best   Aly.

I am rather pleased with the blue 'crest' on the kneeling figure.

The Kilts and Helmet Crests are... Citadel...  Evil Sunz Scarlet and Lothern Blue
