Shiny American Civil War… Rush’s Lancers.

Greetings…

It’s shiny time…

Another unit for my Shiny American Civil War project…

This time it is Rush’s Lancers…more correctly the 6th Pennsylvanian Cavalry.

I’ve always loved the idea of lancers during the American Civil War so these guys were a real must have… The anachronistic weaponry was however discontinued in 1863.

Regardless of what they were armed with they went on to become one of the best Union cavalry regiments…fighting at Gaines’ Mill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Brandy Station and Gettysburg.

These chaps are from Jacklex Miniatures but I have converted them a bit to remove the carbine sling as very few of the men were originally issued with them… I also added shoulder scales and made my own swords…
I did wonder if I had made the pennons a bit big…but now that they are done I am quite happy with the result.
As is always with Jacklex figures these were a joy to put together and paint…

The Tunics are… Citadel… Kantor Blue with a touch of Caledor Sky.
The Trousers are… Citadel… Hoeth Blue.
The Lances are… Citadel… Mournfang Brown.
The Braid is… Foundry…Ochre 4B.
The Pennons are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet.

Once the main colours were blocked in everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid.

The horses were painted Mournfang Brown and then given a couple of diluted coats of Contrast Gore-Grunta Fur.

The figures are from Jacklex…

The bases are as always from Warbases…

The paints are Wargames Foundry and Citadel...

The Guidon came from my old Flags for the Lads supply…

It will probably be more War of 1812 next time… hurrah!

Shiny American Civil War… The second Union unit…

Greetings…

So… A shiny interlude…

While I have had various shades of blue on my brush I have been painting another Union unit for my Shiny American Civil War project…

The miniatures are once again from Jacklex Miniatures…

I have decided that if possible I will only use Jacklex for this project… They have a style that I find really pleasing…

The Tunics are… Citadel… Kantor Blue plus some Caledor  Sky.

The Trousers are… Citadel… Hoeth Blue.

The Snap Sacks are… Foundry… Charcoal Black Light 34C.

The Guns are… Citadel… Mournfang Brown.

The Water Bottles are… Citadel… Russ Grey.

The White bits are… Citadel Pallid Wych Flesh.

The Blanket Rolls are… Citadel Administratum Grey.

The Leather Goods are Black.

As always everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and highlighted with the original colours.

I have flagged these up as a Pennsylvanian unit… the flags were once again from the old Flags for the Lads range over painted…

Next up will probably be more War of 1812…

Shiny American Civil War… The first Union unit…

Greetings…

So as the title says here is the first of my Union units for this project…

I have painted them as a standard Regular Infantry Regiment..

I have after some consideration decided not to use any of the figures Dave Andrews gave me for this project…I will however hang on to them as one never knows how the wind may change…

I am going to use Jacklex Miniatures as much as I can… Their relatively simple design and full on retro feel is something that I really like…

As to the composition of the armies I am using the Action In The Plattville Valley scenario from Donald Featherstone’s War Games as a guide…

Six infantry, two cavalry and one cannon a side… it’s a good start and allows me to have a reasonable collection to build on and game with…

Of course these numbers are as always a guide and not a rule…

So… here it is…

I am indeed very pleased with these…

One off the things that took some time was my indecision about what to do about flags… In the end I went for the old Flags for the Lads range that I picked up many years ago and over painted the somewhat ‘pixilated’ images …

I know… Why take the easy option?…

Shiny American Civil War... A bit of Rebasing.

 Greetings...

When I decided that I (Or was it the butterfly?) wanted to delve into some 20mm Shiny American Civil War action my good friend Dave Andrews donated a box of toys he didn’t want to the cause...

As some of the figures were already painted by the man himself I decided to give a unit a coat of varnish and base them up...

Of course having never knowingly left anything alone...

I have added new flags... These came from my stock of the original Flags for the Lads American Civil War range... they were sealed with matte varnish spray before being attached to the standard bearers.

The caps and facings were given a coat sky blue paint and various scuffs and scratches were touched up.

Everything was then given a good coat of gloss varnish.

The figures are by (I believe) Wolfensfeld Miniatures... as far as I know they are no longer in production.

The bases are as always by Warbases...

https://warbases.co.uk/product-category/bases/round-cornered-bases/

I am very pleased with how these have turned out.. the whole process was fairly quick and enjoyable.

As to other projects... I seem to be butterflying about a bit... but I am having fun

We will see what sticks...😁

Butterfly Moments... Shiny American Civil War.

Greetings...

Okay I am calling it a butterfly moment for now... but I think this one has potential.

One of the reasons that it has potential is the fact that David Andrews has given me a big bag of 20mm figures... so it would be rude not to try.

A while back I ordered some samples from Jacklex Miniatures...

http://www.jacklexminiatures.com/american-civil-war

I have to say that Mark Lodge the current owner is a fine fellow to deal with.

I have always liked Jacklex Miniatures, they have a character all of their own...

I was however taken by surprise by the genuine old school packaging...

Definitely old school...

I seem to remember Minifigs being packed in the same way many many years ago...

It was quite fun digging the toys out...although I am not sure how I would cope with a really large order.

Jesting aside this certainly reduces the amount of plastic packaging and it is recyclable.

So I painted a few up....

I have to say I am very pleased with them... they certainly tick all the shiny boxes.

I will be taking this one slowly for the moment... It’s not like I don’t have anything else to do...

The next shiny Americans will come out of the box of toys David gave me...
