Greetings...
When I decided that I (Or was it the butterfly?) wanted to delve into some 20mm Shiny American Civil War action my good friend Dave Andrews donated a box of toys he didn’t want to the cause...
As some of the figures were already painted by the man himself I decided to give a unit a coat of varnish and base them up...
Of course having never knowingly left anything alone...
I have added new flags... These came from my stock of the original Flags for the Lads American Civil War range... they were sealed with matte varnish spray before being attached to the standard bearers.
The caps and facings were given a coat sky blue paint and various scuffs and scratches were touched up.
Everything was then given a good coat of gloss varnish.
The figures are by (I believe) Wolfensfeld Miniatures... as far as I know they are no longer in production.
The bases are as always by Warbases...

I am very pleased with how these have turned out.. the whole process was fairly quick and enjoyable.
As to other projects... I seem to be butterflying about a bit... but I am having fun
We will see what sticks...đ
All the best Aly
A good friend provides ready-made units. A REALLY good friend provides ready-made armies!
ReplyDeleteYour troops look good and shiny, Aly!
It certainly helps having a few units that are more or less finished...

That's a lovely looking unit, Aly. I've not seen those figures before - they're charming.
ReplyDeleteIain
They are nicely proportioned and work well with the gloss varnish...

A lovely gift from a friend is always a joy! You have done them proud!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed...
DeleteI’m looking forward to getting another unit polished up..
All the best. Aly
Hello there Aly,
ReplyDeleteThey look really lovely - there is something very satisfying about plain painted bases and gloss varnish!
All the best,
DC
There are certainly no distractions to take your eyes away from the toys...

'Shiny' indeed! (Sorry, been rewatching Firefly ). These have painted up rather nicely but then
ReplyDeleteone can never really have too many 20mm ACW...
I do like the shiny... and Firefly.

I think John Cunningham had the rights for the Wodensfeld ACW range.
ReplyDeleteThat’s worth knowing.. thank you Mark.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
And very nice they look too!
ReplyDeleteThey have turned out rather well...

These are very nice Aly - obviously a more recent range of 20mm figures - they do not have your traditional 70's look a la Minifigs, Lamming etc.
ReplyDeleteYes they are a lot more recent...2000/2001 I think...

Cute! Very charming figures which brought out by the shininess of the varnish.
ReplyDeleteYou’ve got to love the shiny đ.

Gloss varnish always brings out the colours far more than your standard matte I’ve been so tempted to give at least one of my armies the treatment - we shall see! As to those elusive butterflies I just keep looking for more
ReplyDeleteThe varnish definitely brings the colours out.
DeleteGet glossing Grahame... you know it makes sense.
All the best. Aly
Superb figures! Love the look and the shine just makes them better.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed... it has made a nice easy start to the collection.

Very well done Aly!
ReplyDeleteThe hard work was done by Dave... but I am very pleased how they turned out.

I trust there are some equally well done Union canon to chase these fellows back down south. Can't have them making it as far as the UK, that's for certain!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the only painted gun and crew are from the Confederacy...
DeleteIt is however early days and industry of the North is yet to kick in....
All the best. Aly
