15mm Carolingians… Carolingian Heavy Infantry.

Greetings…

Here is another unit for my 15mm Carolingian project…

Carolingian Heavy Infantry…

As always these fellows were a joy to paint… I have a unit of Carolingian Medium Infantry undercoated and waiting patiently on the my desk for me to finish butterflying around… looking at my dest at the moment they certainly are going to need their patience. 😁

I think I will do a bit of desk clearing…so expect a fair mixture of pretty toys to appear over the next wee while.

The Heavy Infantry were painted pretty much in the same colours as the Guard Cavalry…

The Leather Bits are… Citadel… Deathclaw Brown.

The Red Bits are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet and Mephiston Red.

The Yellow Bits are… Foundry… Ochre 4B.

The Boots are… Citadel… Doombull Brown.

The Spears are… Foundry… Spearshaft Light 13C.

As always everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then highlighted with the original colours.

The figures are from Forged in Battle.

15mm Carolingians… Lombard Heavy Cavalry.

Greetings…

This month continues without much hobby progress…

And to add to the building work disruption I have caught the latest office cold/cough… This one is a right sod, I haven’t had a good nights sleep this week, it’s been bad enough for me to actually take sick leave for the first time since I had Covid.🤧

So… Here are my 15mm Lombard Heavy Cavalry…

Just like the Carolingian Guard Cavalry these were a real joy to paint…Nicely sculpted with clean lines and well defined detail… perfect for my style of painting.

I must admit that I am tempted to move this project further up the mountain towards the front/top of painting queue.

The Horses are painted… Citadel… Mournfang Brown…Then give a washes with various Contrast Colours Browns.

The Leather Bits are… Citadel… Deathclaw Brown.

The Blue Bits are… Citadel… Caledor Sky and Teclis Blue.

The Yellow Bits are… Foundry… Ochre 4B.

The Green Bits are… Citadel… Loren Green.

The Leggings are… Citadel… Administratum Grey.

The Spears are… Foundry… Spearshaft Light 13C.

As always everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then highlighted with the original colours.

15mm Carolingians…. Guard Cavalry.

Greetings…

February was a bit of a quiet month for me…

The building work in my house has kept toys in boxes and not on the painting desk…

It progresses steadily and dustily…

So….

I thought I would show something I painted earlier… After I painted the test figures for this project I got around to painting a full unit of the Carolingians and the Lombards…

Here are the Carolingians….

My intention was to wait until I had a good run at this project before showing anything but I fear that the disruption with be continuing for a while yet…so consider this as a preview.

DBA… Another game and my Dacians.

Greetings…

On Friday we had another couple of games of DBA.

It was a chance to get two new armies on to the table… My Dacians and Israel’s Spanish…

Israel and Alessandro took the Spanish and Matt and I took the Dacians…

We went for two players a side again as we are still collectively getting our heads around the rules and this way kept us a bit more focused…

We had two games… The Spanish won the first and the Dacians the second.

An excellent result I think.

My dice throwing was up to its usual high standard.

It was interesting using our new armies as it gave us a chance to try out a good part of the rules… there was a fair amount of looking things up but it all proved profitable and it sparked of a number of interesting conversations.

I am sure that after a few more sessions we will get quite slick at things.

For the uninitiated this is all the options that the Army Lists allow… 12 stands equals an army.

The figures were painted in my usual way using a variety of muted colours for the clothing and slightly bolder colours for the shields…

A very slight distraction… DBA.

Greetings…

As everyone clearly knows I am very focused in my collecting… so this distraction will certainly surprise most of you…

Honest…😜

Last Friday I had a fun game of DBA with three chums from work… Alessandro, Israel and Steven.

Alessandro had played before as had I (although a long time ago)…Israel and Steven were newbie’s.

As it was a first game we had two aside… Alessandro and Steve and Israel and me.

The figures were supplied by Alessandro (The Romans) and Israel (The Germans).

Here are a few pictures…randomly rearranged by Google… but they should give a good impression of the affair…

The Germans were victorious …

We had a lot of fun and will certainly do it again….

Have I purchased a Dacian army…. Of course not…that would be so out of character 🤣.

Okay I will get back to basing my 40 mm Spanish now…

15mm… Carolingians… Test Pieces.

Greetings…

Hopefully you will remember me buying some 15mm ‘ Dark Age’ figures…

Well I have finished a couple of test figures…

For the Carolingians I have gone for reds… very ‘classic’ Roman…

And for the Lombards I have gone for blues…

Because the toys are quite small I wanted to create two very different paint schemes that can be easily identifiable on the tabletop…

These fellows were a joy to paint…the clean lines and clear detail made it a quick job…

I am not sure when I will start painting the armies… but I am looking forward to starting the project…
