Greetings…
February was a bit of a quiet month for me…
The building work in my house has kept toys in boxes and not on the painting desk…
It progresses steadily and dustily…
So….
I thought I would show something I painted earlier… After I painted the test figures for this project I got around to painting a full unit of the Carolingians and the Lombards…
Here are the Carolingians….
My intention was to wait until I had a good run at this project before showing anything but I fear that the disruption with be continuing for a while yet…so consider this as a preview.
The Horses are painted… Citadel… Mournfang Brown…Then give a washes with various Contrast Colours Browns.
The Leather Bits are… Citadel… Deathclaw Brown.
The Red Bits are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet and Mephiston Red.
The Yellow Bits are… Foundry… Ochre 4B.
The Boots are… Citadel… Doombull Brown.
The Spears are… Foundry… Spearshaft Light 13C.
As always everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then highlighted with the original colours.
The figures are from Forged in Battle.

All the best Aly
I do like your painting style - so clean, it looks effortless.
ReplyDeleteLove the guy in the front rank taking a swig from his flask.... ;o)
Thank you Rob…
DeleteThe guy in the front rank is the regimental drunketer…😁
All the best. Aly
Beautiful little figures Aly, hope the disruption doesn’t go on too long !
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…
DeleteAnother couple of weeks… then a break and then …more😳.
All the best. Aly
Hi Aly,
ReplyDeleteThey are obscenely good old chap and seeing Carolingians is a real treat - an old friend of mine (sadly no longer with us) was a fervent Carolingian gamer in 25mm using WRG 6th edition and he had a unit that was not a million miles away from yours.
Really nice looking old chap!
All the best,
DC
Thank you very much David…
DeleteWay way back in the day I had a WRG Carolingian army myself…The old Citadel Miniatures historicals.
All the best. Aly
It's a very nice unit and, even if there are only two poses besides the command group, it doesn't give an impression of repetitiveness. The colour scheme is effective and the freehand with the monogram on the sign is excellent. Did you choose to paint all the horses the same black color for convenience, or did the Franks mainly breed this breed of horse?
ReplyDeleteThank you very much…
DeleteThe horses are actually a couple of shades of dark brown but they don’t show up that well on the photos…
All the best. Aly
Diddy delightfulness amongst the disruption and dust there Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…

The wee chapies look very daper, well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteThey were lovely figures to paint.
All the best. Aly
Despite chaos on the Home Front, progress continues. Fine brushwork, Aly!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan…
DeleteAll the best. Aly.
As usual you are firing my own butterfly. I have a whole army of these in 25mm citadel castings that have been impatiently waiting for my attention. Sadly the wait may be a long one. Love the look of your unit and your stylistic choices. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteLet your butterfly flutter free…
All the best. Aly
January? You mean February as we are already in March. You were so busy that you skipped one month! ;-) Unfortunately same here....
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great work as always. These colours are really standing out!
Best wishes,
Jan
Thank you Jan…
DeleteNow changed to February…😂
All the best. Aly
