ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Monday 19 December 2022

A very slight distraction… DBA.

Greetings…

As everyone clearly knows I am very focused in my collecting… so this distraction will certainly surprise most of you…

Honest…😜

Last Friday I had a fun game of DBA with three chums from work… Alessandro, Israel and Steven.

Alessandro had played before as had I (although a long time ago)…Israel and Steven were newbie’s.

As it was a first game we had two aside… Alessandro and Steve and Israel and me.

The figures were supplied by Alessandro (The Romans) and Israel (The Germans).

Here are a few pictures…randomly rearranged by Google… but they should give a good impression of the affair…

The Germans were victorious …

We had a lot of fun and will certainly do it again….
Have I purchased a Dacian army…. Of course not…that would be so out of character 🤣.

Okay I will get back to basing my 40 mm Spanish now…

All the best. Aly

  3. That random distribution is a pain, especially asit didn't used to happen. You used to be able to deselect them, then reselect in the order you wanted them to download...easy! Now...

    1. It is somewhat frustrating…
I suppose it doesn’t matter so much if you are only posting one or two photos at a time but if it is a long battle report it is to say the least tiresome…

  6. Nice looking little game there Aly...were you German or Roman?! I only ever have the photo shuffling if I mess with the images in the middle of the process ....in other words, as long as I select the images, wait till they are all "loaded" bar the last one, then click on the last one so it is also loaded and then select them all, they all turm up in the order they were in when I saved them to my laptop. Any cock ups though eg if I accidentally deselect one image then reselect it, mayhem ensues! It's only happened occasionally, but it's certainly a pain when it does happen!

I never had any problems with my laptop but I am now using an IPad…
I will see how things go when I get a new PC in the sales.

    2. The smaller games are often the most fun to play. Lovely figures. What scale are they?

  10. Long ago I used to play quite a bit of DBA/DBM. Have since donated those figs and moved on, but have retained the rules and find it an excellent system for one-offs and filler games like this--when getting toys on the table and gathering with a few chums is the aim (then again, ain't that always the aim?).

  12. Love it 😁 I play Big Battle DBA most weeks at the club a great game and even with 36 elements to an army isn’t onerous to play. Enjoy the gaming, get more 15mm painted and seasons greetings Aly.

  13. As others have said a nice little game. I have never played DBA always seemed a bit competitive, but a wargame is a wargame is a wargame and now I am even enjoying hexes who knows what next

    1. It’s one of those games that can get competitive if you play with competitive people.
Coming second so often I have long given up any thoughts of being competitive 😁

  15. Cute battle! We didn't know DBA, so we took the opportunity to retrieve some information about these rules...
We too would like to know the scale of the minis (10 or 15 mm?).
As for the random arrangement of the photos, you could offer readers a puzzle pastime for the Christmas holidays: "rearrange the sequences of the battle in the right chronological order and make sense of it". What would be the reward for those who succeed?

    1. The miniatures are 15mm…
I think if it happens when I play against Mharaid tomorrow it will be far to easy to work out what happened….I come second/ get thrashed/get massacred 😂…

    1. I imagine it’s popular at clubs because you can get a few games in over an evening…and doesn’t involve carrying lots of metal/plastic around.
