Greetings…
It’s shiny time…
Another unit for my Shiny American Civil War project…
This time it is Rush’s Lancers…more correctly the 6th Pennsylvanian Cavalry.
I’ve always loved the idea of lancers during the American Civil War so these guys were a real must have… The anachronistic weaponry was however discontinued in 1863.
Regardless of what they were armed with they went on to become one of the best Union cavalry regiments…fighting at Gaines’ Mill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Brandy Station and Gettysburg.

The bases are as always from Warbases…

The paints are Wargames Foundry and Citadel...

The Guidon came from my old Flags for the Lads supply…
It will probably be more War of 1812 next time… hurrah!
All the best Aly.
Fine and shiny looking lancers, Aly!

Hello there Aly,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful looking old chap - they have that lovely old school swagger about them!
All he best,
DC
Thank you David.
DeleteI find that simple clean design very appealing…
All the best. Aly
Well then, Lancers… that’s a new one on me. They look delightful sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you JBM…
DeleteIt’s an interesting unit… The Confederacy also had a unit of lancers…
I may do them as well.
All the best. Aly
Superbly done Aly. These figures are such a “smile maker” for chaps of our vintage.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carlo…
DeleteThey always put a smile on my face…
All the best. Aly
Very....eerrrr...shiny, Aly! I don't think it matters too much about the size of the pennons, even if they are a bit over sized, that just goes along with the whole sixties toy soldier look, I would say!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you spotted the shininess… I was worried that I had understated it bit this time 😁
DeleteI started to warm to the pennons now.
All the best. Aly
Very toy soldiery there! If it floats your boat, why not?
ReplyDeleteMy boat is certainly floating with these…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Lovely Looking unit as always Aly your attention to detail ‘shines’ out, not sure many people would make swords for their shiny figures👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…
DeleteThey looked a bit unfinished without their swords and it was a fairly quick fix.
All the best. Aly
Terrific old school stuff!
ReplyDeleteThank you…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
They are a joy to behold - when are you going to treat us to some shiny army parades, Napoleonic and/or ACW?
ReplyDeleteThank you Rob…
DeleteI am getting closer to having a Napoleonic parade….but as I only have three ACW units finished that may take a little longer.
All the best. Aly
Splendidly turned out, the Lance's just had to be done. I am reminded of the old bubble gum card with the lancer.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteTopps Bubblegum cards… I remember getting them as a kid… the bubblegum was horrible but the card were brilliant…
They also did Mars Attacks.
All the best. Aly
Fantastic stuff - will they see action any time soon or are they doomed to haunt your shelves or roam cupboards in search of the foe? Interesting use of the contrast as a wash by the way - shall try that.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rick…
DeleteWhen I have enough troops to play the Action in the Plattville Vally from Featherstone’s War Games… they will see battle.
I find the Contrast Colours work well for horses.
All the best. Aly
Excellent looking lancers,nice swords!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain.

Fabulous stuff Aly. Always a pretty ACW unit.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark…
DeleteThey make for a nice different ACW unit…
All the best. Aly
Really nice! Interesting that as the very modest experiment with the lance in the US was concluding Europe was moving in the other direction, with lances showing up in all classes of cavalry (I always find it jarring to see Prussian cuirassiers of the later century carrying lances!).
ReplyDeleteThank you Ed…
DeleteYes Europe really bought into the lance… all the way up to and including WW1.
All the best. Aly
Absolutely delightful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ross…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
I managed to miss this post somehow. They are absolutely terrific Aly!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matthew…
DeleteMaybe you were blinded by the shine….😁
All the best. Aly
Squadron that makes a nice (we would say "shiny") impression, even if armed in a rather old-fashioned way, within a civil war that experiences great technological innovations ... but these inconsistencies should not surprise, if you even think about it to the Polish cavalry against German tanks in World War II! We greatly appreciate your attention in equipping the troops with weapons that are more faithful to reality, which make them more particular. The pennons make a good impression, even if a little oversized: perhaps at this scale it is better this way, because the sight on the battlefield is important. We too have been busy with the construction of a cavalry lance pennon these days, albeit at a different scale (54 mm): we posted some pictures on our blog and we hope it looks good!
ReplyDeleteThank you…
DeleteThey are a nice unusual unit… The Confederates had a lancer unit a well so I may add them to the collection at some point.
I had a look at your blog… very nice restoration work.
Blogger doesn’t seem to be showing you on my list of blogs I follow at the moment…
I will check that it is actually on the list of blogs I want to show on the list…blogger can be a bit awkward at times.
Huh - I learned something new about the ACW today - we had lancers? Who knew? Beautiful as always Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteThere were some quite unusual and colourful units in the ACW…especially in the earlier part…
All the best. Aly
