Greetings…
Here we have further addition to this project…
This time it is for U.S. 21st Infantry… I decided that my American regiment would indeed be the 21st.
I have gone for the command company…
This all seemed to go as planned… until I looked at the photos…
Can you spot the classic schoolboy error… sigh!
Anyway… now fixed here they are…
Apart from my flag issues/cock-up this was yet again a very enjoyable unit to paint…
I do like the American army uniforms from this period, they are very neat looking.
The figures are from Knuckleduster…

The flags are by Flags of War

My next War of 1812 unit will be British but the next post may be a bit shiny….
All the best Aly
Nice stuff again Aly, I think I may have the 21st in my US collection too! Are you planning to do any of the regiments in "non standard" coats - I did a few with buff coats and others with black, just to mix it up a bit! The flags look very nice, even if the regiment was temporarily in distress! I used ones I pulled off the web for free - basically the same as these but not as flash looking!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith…
DeleteThe main reason I chose the 21st was that they were at Lundys Lane… probably one of my favourite actions from the war…
I am focusing the collection around the later part of the war when most of the supply issues had eased… but there are a lot of interesting militia and volunteer uniforms that should add a bit of variety…
Flags of War make very nice flags…
All the best. Aly
Another cracking unit--anytime I see a War of 1812 game (in 28mm), the first thing that draws my eye are the unique US colors--rightside up or otherwise :)--they are one of the defining signatures that sets this era apart (particularly when the flags are nicely done).
ReplyDeleteThank you Ed…
DeleteYes the flags a quite distinctive and for the regular army also fairly uniform in appearance… the Volunteer and Militia make up for that by having some rather distinctive designs.
All the best. Aly
Those are splendid, and who hasn't at some time stuck the flag on upside down?
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteI suspect that this won’t be the last time 😁
All the best. Aly
Adrians Walls have four sheets of 1812-15 flags: US; US Militia; Canadian; British. £10 a sheet, 2 or more post free.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how they compare size wise with the Flags of War ones.
DeleteGreat looking unit, Aly! As for flag-hanging, well, it happens to the best of us.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan…
DeleteIt’s a bit galling when it’s clearly obvious… as in the writing is upside down 😁
All the best. Aly
Very nice indeed!
ReplyDeleteThank you Warburton…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
A fine addition Aly, as for the flag issue, been there, done that 😯
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteIt seems like I am in grand company…
All the best. Aly
Nice unit Aly…good to see your unit is no longer in distress.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark…
DeleteI think that their distress came from having an upside down flag.
All the best. Aly
Nicely done Aly at least you could fix the flag. I notice you have kept the flag very flat, I’ve become accustomed to people (including me) adding lots of waves and folds. Personal preference I guess 👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…
DeleteI guess I like to see as much of the flag as possible… it also used to annoy me when I would sometimes find tiny little wrinkles on the surface of the deep folds.
Maybe I’m just not very good at folding flags 😳😂.
All the best. Aly
A good choice regardless of whether the ensign is drunk or not.
ReplyDelete"I'll try Sir!"
Yes … they were certainly kept busy during the War of 1812.
DeleteAnd at Lundys Lane they did indeed try… and succeeded.
All the best. Aly
That's a great looking unit Ally.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ray…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Yep, been there done that. I hand painted a British Napoleonic flag upside down or back to front. There was no going back since the central design was painted onto a wonky flag! The 21st is another nicely painted unit Aly!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteI have got half way through painting a flag only to realise that I was painting the lettering on the wrong side…
Hopefully I will take more care next time 😁
All the best. Aly
As always excellent stuff - we never had that flag problem with the pixies and fairies did we!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rick
DeleteTrue…
“ Do you know that skull is upside down?”
“ Of course it is… don’t you know anything… that unit was famed for its use of the Inverted Skull of Doom Mountain “
All the best. Aly
Lovely looking unit, I've done it,but I thought it was the world turned upside down war?
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain…
DeleteNext time I will make sure that I am not topsy turvy when I put my flags on.
All the best. Aly
Great company! Excuse our ignorance, but why two flags? What does each of them represent? For the problem of the upside-down flag, we hope that at the first fight a British cannon shot will hit the flag bearer and definitively solve the problem!
ReplyDeleteThank you…
DeleteThe blue flag is the regiments National Standard and the buff flag is the Regimental Standard… the British army had a similar system.
If the standard bearer was hit by a cannon ball it would have been quite appropriate… an inverted flag is a sign of distress.
All the best. Aly
