Greetings...
My daughter's (very intelligent ) desire to play with toy soldiers has re-fired my interest in starting some collections based around various skirmish rules...
One set of rules that has caught my interest is Song of Drums and Shakos by Ganesha Games...
http://ganeshagames.net/
I have played a couple of solo games using my Shiny Toy Soldiers and have found the rules easy to learn and fun to play and most importantly you only need a dozen or so miniatures a side.
My first unit is 12 French Voltigeurs plus an NCO and an Officer wearing the 1812 Barden uniform.
I sculpted new plumes on the NCO and Officer using Green Stuff.
The miniatures are all Front Rank...

This is the French NCO...
The basic colours have been blocked in in my usual way...
Coatee ... Citadel... Kantor Blue with a wash of Drakenhof Nightshade...
I wanted to make the colour quite dark.
Belts, Breeches, Plastron Etc... Citadel...Pallid Wych Flesh.
Cuffs and Piping... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet.
Collar, Plume and Shoulder Straps... Foundry... Ochre 4B.
Musket and pack... Citadel... Mournfang Brown.
Rolled Greatcoat... Citadel... Administratum Grey.

Everything was then given a wash of Aly's Brown Liquid...
See https://alystoysoldiers.blogspot.co.uk/2017/08/the-war-of-spanish-succession-prussian.html stage two.
Next the figure was highlighted with the original shades and the Belts and straps were painted with Citadel Ceramite White.
The finished unit...
The bases are as usual from Warbases...

My next addition to this project will be some British infantry wearing Belgic Shako...
But before that I have two WSS Dutch infantry and one Danish cavalry unit to get on with.
All the best Aly
Cracking stuff. Hmmm, a dozen or so figures you say, and I have plenty of peninsula scenery.

DeleteIt’s a chance to paint something you wouldn’t normally do...
How about Tyrolese rebels v’s Bavarians...
Really impressive--as if I needed more Napoleonics. Must. Resist.
ReplyDeleteOf course you need more...
DeleteThe Front Rank reenforcement packs are lovely...
eed Aly. A daughter wishing to wargame...you are truly blessed. Wonderful whenver the younger generation get involved in the hobby as my house can also attest.
ReplyDeleteI was quite surprised at first...
DeleteAnd it turns out that she is a devil with the dice...;-)
We have a game planed for Boxing Day... you never know I might win this one...
Song of Drums and Shakos is splendid fun. Though the elite Voltigeurs with all their special rules are a bit like the Space Marines of 1812!

Hi Tom...
DeleteThey are painted as Line Voltigeurs so only slightly better than centre company troops...
Although the Light Infantry Voltigeurs do look rather tasty...:-)
We always need voltigeurs, and these ones are just perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil...
DeleteThey were a pleasure to paint ...I am looking forward to painting the British...
Very sharp! The very dark blue is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteBest Regards,
Stokes
Thank you Stokes...
DeleteI think that the dark blue helps to make the other colours stand out...
Cracking job! I have two young daughters...so there's hope yet then.. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou could always introduce your daughters to the My Little Pony role playing game...;-)
DeleteVery nice unit Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark
