A Couple of Good Books...

Here are two rather good books that I am reading at the moment...


Both books are from Hellion's Century of Soldier 1618-1721...





The Army of James II 1685-1688...
An excellent little book...
It does what it says on the cover... well written with lots of information... especially if you have a fluttering interest in the Monmouth Rebellion...







Charles XI's War...
The Scanian War Between Sweden and Denmark 1675-1679.


A must admit that I have long standing interest in this little known conflict... and if you too have a desire to find out more ... this is the book to get....


Once again well written and very informative...
A period that I am always tempted by...






I also took delivery of some more Robert Hall plates from The Pike and Shot Society...


I really can't recommend these guys enough... they do a splendid service.

    Very nice Aly. Those plates do look quite sharp and the colour and vibrancy is very good. I do like books you know...

      Yes the kindle may be fine for long holidays...but give me paper and print anytime.

    Helion do some great books on previously 'hard to find in English' subjects. Any decent volumes on the Second Schleswig-Holstein war you can suggest Aly?

    Nice looking books and prints Aly - do you just use the latter for reference, or do you frame them up? As to having a fluttering interest in Monmouth's Rebellion - who doesn't!? Do you remember the kids TV series "Pretenders" from HTV West - I was about ten when it aired in 1972! I have had an interest in this war since around that time....maybe one day

      The Hall prints are for reference... but you are right... they would look very nice framed.
      Yes I remember the Pretenders series... I was only thinking about it the other day.

    I'm always happy to see more readily available material in English on the wars of the second half of the 17th Century. I'll have to look into those Robert Hall plates: thanks for showcasing those!

    Interesting pair of books and nice prints, Monmouth and James the 2nd are both very tempting...!

      It is all rather tempting... I find the early history of the British Army very interesting...I have a book on the British forces in Tangier 1662-80 waiting in the reading pile...
