Greetings...
Due to life...life...life and of course work...
I have not had a lot of time to do much since Xmas...
I have done something however...
I have been rebasing my small 3rd Century Romans to fit in with the Lion Rampant rules...
https://ospreypublishing.com/lion-rampant-medieval-wargaming-rules
This has been inspired by two things...
One... the fact that I have realised that I don't have the stamina or desire to paint up two whole Hail Caesar armies.
Two... some very nice army lists for Romans on the blog I Live With Cats...
http://ilivewithcats.blogspot.com/search/label/romans
Rebasing my Romans has given me six units of infantry... two units of cavalry and some command types... Enough I think for a nice small game.
I have put them on round bases...
The infantry are on 30mm... 45mm and 55mm.
The cavalry are on 45mm... 55mm and 65mm.
The command are on whatever suits.
Here are a few units... I have of course yet to texture them as I haven't made up my mind how I would like them to look...
I have also started some Sassanids to fight against them...
I am looking forward to getting on with this project... hopefully it won't take me too long.
The miniatures are...
A&A... https://www.aandaminiatures.co.uk/
Aventine... https://aventineminiatures.co.uk/
The shield transfers are...

And the bases are...

All the best Aly
Good to see the project back in the limelight Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil...
DeleteI am looking forward to playing with them.
All the best. Aly
Great looking figures and brush work.
ReplyDeleteI played Lion Rampant for the second time at the club on Wednesday (Trojan War). I came second but had a lot of fun. I have some HYW Perry figures in the queue for this game too.
Look forward to see how your armies roll out.
Thank you Matt...
DeleteI am keen to get something on the table...
All the best. Aly
Rounds? Very interesting. They will look great and I look forward to more!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan...
DeleteMichael Leck... co author of Rebels and Patriots and Pikeman’s Lament has been using this basing system for a while and I quite like the look of it...
Although I have made my bases a little bit bigger than his...
All the best. Aly
It must be the season. I've just overhauled my Gallic Wars version of these rules, and extended them out to the early imperial era. 6 games this year so far, and they seem to have the right balance that I wanted.
ReplyDeleteI notice that you had been trying them out...
DeleteI will have a good look at what you have done when I have enough toys to play with...
All the best. Aly
Very nice. I'm a big fan of the 3-2-1 basing. Love the Sassanids.
ReplyDeleteThank you Stuart...
DeleteThe basing has a nice look to it...
I am really pleased with the Sassanids and look forwards to painting more.
All the best. Aly
All good but those Sassanids really look the business.
ReplyDeleteThank you...
DeleteThey are lovely little miniatures... and I enjoyed painting them.
All the best. Aly
Aly,
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this, having sold the majority of my 28's for the same reason I kept a few Greeks back for some small scale actions. The big battles are now in 15mm as I can crank these out.
Your figures are, as always, spot on
Thank you Graham...
DeleteI am very tempted to do something in 15mm... I just can’t decide what...
All the best. Aly
3rd century, my favorite!! And you'ce done an excellent work on these Romans, congrats!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil...
DeleteI have been itching to get back to them...
All the best. Aly
...and gorgeous Sassanid nits as well!
ReplyDeleteThe Sassanids are such a pretty army... I couldn’t pick anything else...
DeleteVery nicely done - and not a bit of gloss varnish in sight either!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rick...
DeleteIf you look really closely... you will see that I have glossed the belts.
And the armour... :-)
I can’t keep away from the stuff...
All the best. Aly
Always good to find a system that can give figures a new life, even if that means rebasing. Splendid looking fellows, all, but I'm partial to the Sassanids (being a sucker for cavalry).
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed...
DeleteI needed to something... or they would never have got played with... it wasn’t too painful...
The Sassanids are very pretty and classic enemies of 3rd century Rome...
All the best. Aly
Nicely done there Aly, though I didn't think over much to the rules the few times we played them. Best of luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you David...
ReplyDeleteI have had a couple of enjoyable games... the system seems quite flexible...
If I don’t get on with the rules there are a few more skirmish types out there.
All the best. Aly
Nice work Aly, a full roman army is certainly a challenge to undertake, and the round basing should work well with LR ( I really like the rules and we have had a lot of fun with them ) 👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt...
DeleteI didn’t want to use single bases or sabots the 3/2/1 round basing seems like a good compromise...
Having fun with your toys... who would have thought it. ;-)
All the best. Aly
Lovely looking Roman's and Sassanids! I quite like lion rampant and these chaps certainly deserve to get on the table!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain...
DeleteIt seemed such a shame to have them just sitting on a shelf... looking for a fight.
All the best. Aly
Really nicely painted figures Aly....but then aren't they always on your site? I too have a few games of Lion Rampant and have enjoyed the way it works.
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith...
DeleteIt seems to be a very adaptable system.
All the best. Aly
There are never enough 3rd century Romans!
ReplyDeleteVery true... :-)
DeleteGreat job as always. I love the LBMS transfers. I used a lot on my Carthaginians and Numidians and they really make life easier and bring the whole look to a new level!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jan...
DeleteThe transfers are indeed lovely... I certainly wouldn’t want to paint all these designs by hand.
All the best. Aly
Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kym...
