Greetings...
The first of my Xmas presents to myself have started to arrive...
First up are two more volumes on the Uniforms of the French Armies...
These are again from Soldiershop Publishing and are everything I have come to expect... lots and lots of pretty pictures.

Next up are some more uniform plates from Brigade/Peter Bunde...
A lot of Prussian units in this lot... I particularly like the look of the Thuringer Battalion...

My miniature samples have started to arrive as well... I think I shall get some painted before I post them...
All the best Aly
It is really comforting to see these old uniform plates back in print. I have a few in this series but not these good looking books.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed really nice books Jonathan...
DeleteWhen I look though them I can’t help but mentally tick off a list of all the units I would like to see on the table...
All the best. Aly
I do the same!
DeleteThese look great. Merry Christmas! Not being a student of the period I’ve always wondered how practical some of these lovely uniforms were when on campaign.
ReplyDeleteI think for the most part, the basic uniform would be okay... it’s basically a coat, trousers and boots...
DeleteBut it’s the shako I find myself wondering about...
I’ve put an original on... and it felt okay standing still... but I couldn’t imagine running for a bus... wearing a Pikeman’s pot also feels quite disorienting.
Maybe it’s because as a society we just don’t wear hats anymore... I suspect if you wore a shako on most days... it would become second nature.
All the best. Aly
Great stuff and your butterfly continues to fly free?
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed flying free...
DeleteMe and Mr Focused aren’t on speaking terms at the moment 😂😂😂
All the best. Aly
A lovely collection of additional uniform information Aly, all the inspiration you need to let the butterfly run rampant!
ReplyDeleteButterfly Rampant 🤔...
DeleteYou may have something there...😂
All the best. Aly
Wonderful plates!
ReplyDeleteBest Regards,
Stokes
They certainly are Stokes...
DeleteAnd very useful.
All the best. Aly
Bravo Aly.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I'd never heard of the Thuringer Battalion!
The Thuringer was a new one to me as well Matthew...
DeleteIn early 1813 the three contingents that made up the battalion all wore different uniforms... which would certainly make for an interesting looking unit.
All the best. Aly
The battalions name in English is the 1st Thuringian...
DeleteThat will teach me not to look at the translation 😁
Some very nice boks there Aly, but far too full of temptation for a poor and weak soul such as myself;)
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed a butterflies dream come true Steve.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Fabulous books Aly. They have a superb range of eBooks too...its a good thing that my Italian language skills doesn’t extend beyond, “good morning”, “good evening”, “thank you” and “beer”, otherwise my wallet would be much lighter.
ReplyDeleteYou are out of luck then Mark...
DeleteAll the books I have are in English or the have a translation included... the ones that don’t are just so full of pretty uniforms that it really doesn’t matter what the language is 😁
All the best. Aly
Thumbing through a uniform book does have a certain pleasure. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYou are quite right Stuart... it also takes ones mind off the real/modern world for a while.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Looking forward to a great 2021. All the best with these projects Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carlo...
DeleteHere’s to a brighter year ahead.
All the best. Aly
Mr Focused needs to be back on the ball I think...
ReplyDeleteMr Focused was really busy all last year... he needs a little rest.
DeleteI may have started a new, New Year tradition for myself... Butterfly January 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
All the best. Aly

ReplyDeleteI may have to get more volumes and plates....
DeleteBecause I really really really neeeed them 😂
All the best. Aly
