Crimean War… Rebasing.

 Greetings…

Things are a bit slow on the painting front at the moment…

Mostly because I have been painting some Shiny Napoleonics French Hussars…

There is so much (As my mother used to say) Falldaroy and La-De-Da on these uniforms it takes forever…

So… here are a couple of photos of some of my rebased Crimean War collection…

First up… French Guard Grenadiers…

Next up some Russian Infantry

A little encouragement goes a long way.

I honestly can’t say that this has been fun… there are a few more finished units… mostly Russian, so they all look pretty much the same…
When I can clear some space on my table I will take some shots of them all together…

The Miniatures are of course by Great War Miniatures and Standards are from North Star Military Figures…

And the bases are as always Warbases…

So… back to the Hussars…

All the best.  Aly

    1. Correctly applied the big stick of encouragement works wonders…

  2. Appropriate for a rebasing project that among those pictured are are fellows being driven forward with a stick--still, a pleasing result does provide some consolation.

    1. Definitely a stick and carrot situation…
It’s painful but the end result is rather pleasing…

    1. Thank you Keith …
Rebasing is not my idea of a good time and I would normally avoid it…
However in this case I am changing the battalions from 40 into 24 man units with the addition of a few extra command figures…
It’s going to double the units I have and will work better on my moderate sized table…

I can’t see me doing this kind of thing again…

      All the best. Aly

  9. Hmmm…that makes me think “do I need to add some Guards to my Crimean French?”. The answer is probably not…but then again…

    1. Surely the fact that you have asked yourself the question means that you need/want some French Grenadiers 😁

  11. I had no idea the Russians went in for the Picklehaub look. That is almost enough to make me game the Crimean War in an of itself. Great looking battalions!

    1. Thank you David…

Yes the Russians adopted it in the early 1840’s about the same time as Prussia…
Although it is Prussia that is credited with creating it… I have read that some say it may have been inspired by a Russian design.
I always think of the war as being very Victorian… beautiful armies commanded by buffoons 😳😁

  13. They look great Aly! Looking forward to seeing other units. So tempting to start another 19C project lookin at these beautiful minis, but probably will go for Franco Prussian or Sudan once I finish with the 2nd Afghan.

      It’s a rather pretty period…
I did wonder if you would be tempted by Michael’s new Franco-Prussian figures.

  14. Do not know how I missed this. Your new basing looks the nuts and its always outstanding to see the Crimean War figures.

Not that I need them but really like the French Grenadiers of the Guard. Not that I heed them of course. But if you see some in my collection in the future blame yourself 🙄

I think for the sake of completeness it may be worth adding just one or two Guard Grenadiers to your collection … I am more than happy to take the blame 😈😁
