ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Shiny Napoleonics… French Artillery.

 Greetings…

I have finally finished basing three French artillery pieces…

The crew have been painted for a while but I decided to repaint the guns because I wasn’t that happy with the colour of the carriages.

The crew are all Minifigs S Range and Intermediate Range, the officers and guns are from the current (1980s) Range…

Line Foot Artillery…

Line Horse Artillery… I suspect these are conversions… mainly because the heads fell off when I stripped the paint off…

Guard Foot Artillery… There are also a couple of conversions here… the gunners with the portfire and the  cannon ball… both converted from the chap with the trail spike.

A couple of dashing Horse Artillery Officers

Come and get it if you dare…

I am very pleased with these, the uniforms are relatively simple-colour wise-but they look very stylish and stand out well… I am glad that I took the time to change the colour of the gun carriages…

The Tunics are… Citadel… Kantor Blue.

The Red bits are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet.

The White Gaiters… are Citadel… Pallid Wytch Flesh.

The Belts are… Citadel… Corax White.

The Officers Gold Braid is… Citadel … Retributor Armour mixed with some Foundry Ochre Light 4C.

The Gun Barrels are… Citadel… Retributor Armour.

The Gun Carriages are… Foundry… French Gun Olive Green Shade 109A.

As always everything was given a wash of Aly’s Brown Liquid and highlighted with the original shade…The belts were given an extra highlight of pure white and the gun barrels were also lightly dry brushed with Retributor Armour plus some Silver.

There is more shininess to follow…

All the best   Aly

  1. There’s a real depth to the colour and as you say, a simple but very effective overall scheme. Not sure what colour you originally had the guns in, but they look the business in that green. Delightful.

    1. Thank you JBM…
The guns were originally a darker shade… actually probably closer to the real thing, but it killed the contrast with the black metal work and made the whole thing look too dark…

  3. They look absolutely stunning! Minifigs do indeed have a charm about them.

As well as having a charm about them… these guys were a joy to paint.

  4. I think I had a few of these once upon a time Aly, although most of my teenage French Napoleonic army was Airfix! (In fact, I may still have a Minifigs gun in my current army when I come to think about it.) With the deductive reasoning skills demonstrated in your suspicions around the converted figures, you were obviously a great loss to Scotland Yard!

    1. The current Minifigs guns are rather nice Keith… they have stood the test of time quite well…
I am in fact on the Metropolitan Police’s books as a consultant… It’s fairly easy stuff really…
      “No chief inspector it’s not a botched conversion job… It’s a murder “ 😳😁

  5. Very shiny! Love them as painted but I do have a fondness for the S range figures.

I know they are not to everyone’s taste… but they always make me smile.

  7. These are exquisite, I didn't used rate Minifigs much in my matt days, but having been turned (turned back) to the shiney side I think they are a joy to behold.

Clearly the shiny was always still inside you… it just needed a little help to run free again 😁

  9. Very nice - the three different era Minifigs go together almost seamlessly too - when shall we see these on the tabletop? :)

I still need some more French, Allied Cavalry and Artillery plus Command for both sides… so still a bit to go…
And of course some suitable terrain and a wargames room that isn’t full of boxes…

Hope you and the family are well.

There is indeed something to be said for a bit of simplicity…
We are all doing well… I hope the same goes for you…

  11. Very, very nice. The gold braid really sets them apart and is masterfully done, as is everything else about them. Limbers next? :)

    1. Thank you David…

I do have a pile of limbers in the lead mountain… they are however mostly loose parts…
I am not sure about doing four horse and six horse teams as I think it would take up a lot of my table space… so I may do some two horse for foot artillery and possibly four horse for horse artillery .

A rocket battery would go well with them.

  14. Very nice. I like the classical toy soldier look. All of my 1/72 Napoleonics are done like this.
