ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Boxing Day Game 2024

Greetings…

My apologies for the time between posts… and the late posting of the Boxing Day Game…

Shortly after Christmas I caught Flu which combined with my Sarcoidosis and an underlying infection… Basically knocked me for six and lead to two visits to the hospital for Blood testes, chest X-Rays, ECG’s and various other swabs and checks….

I am slowly recovering…Apparently this will take some time…

I am beginning to feel a bit better….And I am starting to think about painting toys…

I have even bought myself some new toys… Retail therapy…. What’s not to like.

So… I’m not going to give a full blow by blow account of the Boxing Day game…. I’m not sure how much I can recall… apart from the fact that I will not be holding a victory parade….

Here are sone hopefully pretty pictures with some occasional comments…

The beautiful village… With the Gavle Goat in the village square…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A4vle_goat

The object of the game was for Rust and Malchanceux to burn the goat for a victory… collecting Xmas dinner and destroying enemies on the way would be a bonus.

The Snowmen had to defend it….

Rust makes his move…As does one of the Snowballs of the Apocalypse… (The only one to be activated in the game)…

Rust press’s on…

Malchanceux wanders slowly through the woods… They did manage to pick up a little snack…

Brace yourselves …

Rust finds good firing positions and pours shot into the Village square…

Wander…Wander…Sigh!…

Look… The Village , The Goat ,Snowmen and Rust…
Open fire!…

Like my memory… It starts to get messy…
A flurry of Snowmen and Rusts soldiers running around fighting, shooting and attempts at arson…

Not even Drunky wanted to get involved….

And then at almost the last throw of the dice… The Goat is incinerated….😱

It really was down to the wire…. Rust and Malchanceux were one wrong throw away from breaking…

I reckon I came a Glorious…. 4th 🤣🤣🤣…
A very fun game indeed….

Heres to a Happy and Healthy New Year…

Look after yourselves…

All the best.   Aly

  2. Sorry to hear that the New Year has started poorly for you (but I did note a bad omen for the year in that the first three days of the year were Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - a year that starts with WTF must surely be doubtful). Hope you get well soon. Looks like you had a good bit of fun before the lurgi hit.

  4. Sorry to read about your health woes Aly - it feels like you have been through the ringer a bit in the last 6-12 months? Your festive game looks suitably....weird! And of course, sounds like we got the traditional result - its nice to know there are some things we can still rely on in this world of constant changes!
Looking forward to following your adventures in the coming year.

  9. Hope you continue to recover matey - what did you treat yourself to with the retail therapy? I’m asking cos it’s always good to know what the movers and shakers out there are getting into next! lol. P.S all the Christmas figures look ace but Drunky is still my fave.

I bought some Aventine Hellenistic Phalangites …
I am intending to put together a small Pyrrhic force and a similar sized Hellenistic one to fight them… Pyrrhus died fighting against Sparta… so I thought it would make a nice change from Rome.
I also bought an Airfix kit…
A Boulton Paul Defiant… this was the first aircraft kit I remember building… I think my dad bought me it… Know idea when I will get it done… but it is there for when it is needed 😁
I’m not sure how hip the Boulton Paul is considered these days…
Drinky and Drunky are definitely full of the Xmas spirit… Pints of it.

      All the best. Aly

  10. Splendidly eccentric, as is only to be expected of the annual Father-Daughter game! Glad you are improving health-wise, if not dice-wise!

Whenever we think about doing something different…
All it takes is a look in the Christmas toys box… And we know it has to be Snowmen, Snowballs and Shiny Grenadiers..
      It’s always fun…
I am indeed on the mend… A slow process at the moment… but getting there.

A Happy and Prosperous New Year to you.

  12. Looks super fun as always. The aesthetic is brilliant, perhaps you could ease your way back into the hobby by making some snowman corpses?

  13. What a great looking game! The expression on the faces of the snowmen just kills me.
I got invited to a similar Xmas game this year in Stratford, Ontario: it also featured wooden soldiers, snowmen, plus some very mean looking gingerbread men.
I was sorry to read about your flu. I hope your recovery is swift and easy. Take care!

I rather like the idea of Gingerbread Men…

It’s a steady but slow recovery… but every day there is some improvement…

  14. Looks like the usual lovely game, if you were to win the world would shift off it's axis in all probability, so thanks for coming 4th! Boulton Paul Defiant? Excellent! Always thought something similar would be a great name for a motorbike?

  15. Mmmm, BBQ for Xmas dinner. My favorite! Would have been a shame for the goat to escape and spoil the celebration. Didn't look like any of the snowmen were left to melt in the flames of the BBQ anyway. Glad you are on the mend and hope the trips to the hospital did not put too much of a damper on your holiday.

I think most of the snowmen were reduced to slush…

And I still managed to come 4th 😁
