Shiny Napoleonics… French 3rd Infantry.

Greetings…

Here is the latest unit for my Shiny Napoleonics collection…

The 3rd French Infantry…

They took a little bit longer than I thought they would… but I am trying not to put too much strain on the new eyes.

They are certainly working a lot better 😁

Here we go…

The figures are Minifigs Intermediate Range…

And were as always a joy to paint…

The Tunics are… Citadel… Kantor Blue.

The White bits are… Citadel… Pallid Wytch Flesh.

The Red bits are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet.

The Green bits are… Citadel… Warboss Green.

The Yellow bits are… Citadel… Averland Sunset.

The Light Blue bits are… Citadel… Hoeth Blue.

The Belts are… Citadel… Corax White.

The Backpacks and Muskets are… Citadel… Mournfang Brown.

Everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and highlighted with the original colours. The Belts were also highlighted up to a pure White.

The paints are Citadel...

The bases are as always...

The Flag is GMB Designs...

I have a little bit of ( shiny) rebasing to do next… Then maybe a bit more Shiny Napoleonics.

All the best.  Aly

  3. Very nice Aly, a real joy. I am just discovering the Corax White for my Austrians, with scar white then used for highlights and cross belts.

Corax White and Pallid Wych Flesh are my go to starting colours for white clothing and belts… you get a nice clean white with one and an unbleached white with the other.

      All the best. Aly

  5. Lovely brushwork (as always)! I am especially taken by the colorful plumes worn by the elite companies. One questions since I am not up on my MiniFigs history, or the current ranges. Are these 'intermediate' figures vintage and no longer in production? Used to be a big fan of their 15mm Super Detail Napoleonics as a much younger version of me, but that was more for their affordability. Truthfully, they never could hold a candle to their larger 25mm brethren, which I could not afford at the time.

    Kind Regards,

    Stokes

The Intermediates are indeed vintage…And are out of production.
The current range of 25mm Minifigs are certainly very nice toys and I am more than happy to use them…But in my opinion the Intermediates have definitely got the edge on animation.

  6. Nice stuff Aly, I had all these figures (about of 8 each, it was all I could afford!) as a teenage wargamer in the late 70's. Definitely my favorite figures at the time!

Yes my pocket money didn’t stretch to big units either back in the 70’s…
I’m making up for it now though.

  8. I've said it before but it bears repeating, this unit is just a tour de force of aesthetics and painting skill. Really lovely regiment. How many shiny Napoleonics does that make? Any chance we will see them in a battle soon?

I am currently getting some paint on my new wargames table and I am hoping to…at the very least…have a bit of a parade and maybe a game sometime over the Christmas break.

      All the best. Aly

    2. Completely agree, David! Aly has set the standard for this genre. You and he (and a few others) have inspired a new wave of interest in shiny toy soldier style minis painting.

Of course I was only inspired to get into Shiny Napoleonics after seeing Matthew’s (Aka Wellington Man) stunning work on The Hinton Spieler Blog

      https://thehintonspieler.blogspot.com/

Which of course lead me onto Miniature Minions 😁

  9. Your eyes must be working quite well: these figures are truly wonderful!
    Tremendous work.
Question about the plumes on the elite companies: Did you find a reference about this specific unit that showed the blue in the plumes?

    1. Thank you Glen…
The Osprey Napoleons Line Infantry mentions the blue as does Heimdal’s L’ Infanterie de Ligne 1814-1845 book two.
There are some quite interesting plume and uniform variations in the French line infantry regiments throughout the period.

    2. The Hincliffe Napoleonic Cavalry includes some pretty fun poses: lots of action. And they work well with other lines, including remounted Minifigs (I’ve remounted some on Del Prado horses, and they look great.)

    3. My preference is of course Minifigs…But I do intend to add some more Hinchliffe to the collection… It would be rude not to 😁
