Hurrah! Hurrah!... My second unit of British Horse...
Cadogan's...
They were first raised by Charles Talbot the 1st Duke of Shrewsbury as the Duke of Shrewsbury's Regiment of Horse in 1685...They became Cadogan's in 1703.
Renamed...
The 2nd Regiment of Horse in 1751,
The 5th Regiment of Dragoon Guards in 1788,
The 5th (the Princess Charlotte of Wales's) Regiment of Guards Dragoon in 1804 ,
The 5th ( Princess Charlotte of Wales's) Dragoon Guards in 1823,
And finally merging with The Inniskillings (6th Dragoons) to form the 5th/6th Dragoons in 1922.
They fought at Blenheim, Ramillies and Malplaquet.
Another nice colour combination of Red and Green...
Coats... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet.
Facings... Foundry... Forest Green 26B.
Belts... Foundry... Buff Leather 7B.
White bits... Citadel... Pallid Wych Flesh.
Wooden bits... Citadel... Mournfang Brown.
Osprey's Marlborough's Army 1702-1711 gives the braid as silver... I wasn't sure about painting them in a 'bright' metal colour so I mixed in some white to tone it down... I am rather pleased with the final effect.
The horses were painted the same way as I did Lumley's.
The standard was again home made based on Robert Halls uniform plate... available from The Pike and Shot Society...

All the best Aly
Very sharply dressed regiment of horse with fab brushwork! Front Rank WSS figures are really nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan...
DeleteThe Front Rank figures capture the period really well...
All the best. Aly
Fine job on a fine regiment. My Minifigs regiment was only ever bested by Dave's French once in our many games. Trust there will be no taming of the Shrewsburys when yours see action.
ReplyDeleteIf I remember rightly I hardly won any cavalry melees in those games!
DeleteTaming of the Shrewsbury’s... nice... let’s see what you can do with Wyndham’s.
DeleteI still have a fondness for Minifigs, I had a Marlburian/Great Northern War Ottoman Army... it didn’t win many... Any battles ... but it was very pretty.
I shall try to maintain the regiments traditions...
All the best. Aly
Another beautiful Front Rank cavalry unit Aly - is this your so called glacial painting - two units within a week?!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith...
DeleteAlas, my speed is illusionary... I started painting them at Xmas.
All the best. Aly
I've always just treated silver lace as white. Mixing white and silver together looks like a good compromise.
ReplyDeleteI have always added a touch of orange to gold lace so it was worth trying the same thing with the silver... it gives you a decent contrast with the metal of the buttons.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Those look rather nice Aly. I too have always liked the red and green combination.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark...
DeleteThe next unit, Wyndham’s has sea green facings... which I imagine has a bit more blue in the colour... this should be another nice combination.
All the best. Aly
Those have turned out really well Aly. By coincidence I have the SYW version in my painting queue right now.
ReplyDeleteThank you David...
DeleteI look forward to seeing these...
All the best. Aly.
Elegant and beautiful...great job on this regiment ALy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil...
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Nicely done, indeed! A well turned out unit for a most stately period.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ed...

Nice looking regiment!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thank you Christopher...
DeleteAll the best. Aly
They look rather posh!
ReplyDeleteLet’s hope that they are not to posh to fight when I am commanding them...
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Lovely looking cavalry unit,I don't know,I can't keep up with the speed your painting units now!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain...
DeleteSadly my speed is more illusionary than real... I started these at Xmas...
I am aiming for steady as opposed to fast...;-)
All the best. Aly
