After our adventures in Denmark we returned to Hamburg for the show...
This year the theme of the show was Sci-Fi... but this doesn't mean that there were no historical games... there were plenty.
This is one of the things that I love about Tactica... It is (in my opinion) a fully rounded wargames show... you see historical games of all periods sat side by side with all the different flavours of fantasy and sci-fi plus some wonderful weirdness that is impossible to fit into any pigeon hole.
There is plenty food ... simple but well made fair... and of course beer and soft drinks.
On the Saturday night there is a barbeque...
Customers and vendors hang around into the evening... it is as much a social event as it is a wargames show and shopping trip.
Here are some pictures... unfortunately not as many as I would have liked to take... Phone battery issues(again)... I think its trying to tell me something...
A lovely naval game... The Battle of St Lucia.
Shootout at Dingstown... Wild West with a touch of Dalek...
Somewhere in Tennessee... This is the game that our friends Stefan and Bernhard were involved with... I joined them for a bit... but my bad dice luck infected Bernhard... so I left him to get defeated using his own skills...
The Siege of Neuss 1474-75... very pretty.
Who are you going to call?...
A rather nice Star Wars game... complete with lighting effects and motorized turrets.
Another nice Star Wars game... by Frank Becker and friends.
I think these guys were impressed...
A modern skirmish game... 20mm using Spectre Miniatures rules.
Star Trek...
Masters of the Universe...
Peter Dennis's Paper Boys... WSS... Buildings by Florian Richter.
As well as Great War Miniatures I took the chance to show of some new Shiny Toy Soldiers... that were inspired by the book Florian showed me last year...
This year Florian brought along some full sized prints from the book... seeing them full size did nothing to deter me from continuing with this little piece of madness...
I also bought some lovely miniatures from Schilling-Figuren..
https://www.schilling-figuren.de/produkt-kategorie/1-72/napoleonik/frankreich-1812-1815/franzosen-napoleonische-epoche/
I have no idea what I am going to do with them... I just NEEDED them.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit this year... A big thank you to all my friends and everyone evolved in the show...
Here's to next year...

Looks like a terrific show, Aly! St. Lucia game is striking. You returned with a lot of nifty toys and books. Well done! Thanks for the photo recap.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan...
DeleteThere was some lovely details in the St Lucia game.. if you look at some of the photos on the links you will see what I mean.
All the best. Aly
Diversified and wonderful tables Aly, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil...
DeleteThere was indeed a lot to see...
All the best. Aly
Those are mighty fine looking games, a treat for the old eyes. You garnered a nice bag of swag too.
ReplyDeleteThe games never fail to please...
DeleteIf my bag had been bigger there would have been a lot more...
All the best. Aly
Great looking show Aly - the scenic in the games are fantastic- model railway standard - which looks beautiful but must be a bit impractical sometimes for gaming I would think - great for a show though - and those Schilling figures on parade look fantastic - I fully understand why you "needed" them!
ReplyDeleteI would say that some of the tables were better than model railway standard ...
DeleteAnd some were actually the terrain that they used at home...
The Schilling figures are lovely... size size they don’t fit with anything I have ... but I needed them... actually there was a lot more I needed... alas my luggage wasn’t big enough... ;-)
All the best. Aly
Yeah I saw they were 1/72 - bit of a bugger - I have noticed a lot of German manufacturers produce in this scale - great looking figures but no use with 25/28mm as they are basically 20mm but thinner...
DeleteThe Schilling figures are actually bigger than 20mm but smaller than Front Rank...
DeleteI will dig up a few different castings and do a comparison.
Some great looking games there. That Star Wars table with the LEDs ... wow!
ReplyDeleteThe Star Wars game was a wonderful piece of madness... ;-)
DeleteAll the best. Aly

Certainly better than R.O.B.I.N. 😉
ReplyDeleteJust a little bit colder thought....
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Thanks for the report - a show I think I'm definitely going to have to visit in the future
ReplyDeleteIt’s well worth the effort Graham...
DeleteYou are also quite close to a lot of the Hanseatic Towns like Lubeck...
All the best. Aly
So you will be off to see Nick at Northstar to get some 1864 Danes then? I must admit that it is a period that appeals to me. I can easily see how those dismounted cavalry were impossible to resist 20mm or not.
ReplyDeleteIt’s very tempting...
ReplyDeleteEspecially the idea of a winter skirmish.
All the best. Aly
Looks like it was a fine show!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
It’s a very good show...

Great looking games! Nice haul of books and figures too!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
It was only the capacity of my luggage that stopped me buying more...
