ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Shiny Napoleonics... Prussian Infantry.

Greetings...

Here we have the next shiny addition to this collection...

The 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment No.6...

I picked these up on eBay knowing that I would be stripping them... I have to admit that even I was surprised at the ‘sculptural’ thickness of the paint...
It took three goes to get them down to the metal.... I am glad I made the effort ( I say effort but all I was doing was dropping them in a jar of Dettol)...

I didn’t have any command with shako covers, so they were added with ‘Green Stuff ‘ putty.

So why did I paint this particular unit....   They have a pretty flag.

I think that they have turned out rather well... I have enough figures (now undercoated) for another battalion and I think I will also paint them up as the 1st West Prussian... they get a mostly green and red flag...

The Tunics are... Citadel... Kantor Blue with a diluted wash of Contrast Leviadon Blue.
Trousers and Greatcoats... Citadel... Administratum Grey.
The Trousers were given a wash of slightly diluted Contrast Gryph Charger Grey and highlighted with diluted Administratum.
The Greatcoats were given a couple coats of slightly diluted Contrast Basilicanum Grey followed by a very diluted highlight of Administratum.
The Water Bottles and Greatcoat Guards are... Citadel... Skrag Brown.
The Facings are... Citadel... Mephisto Red.
The Turnbacks are... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet.
The Shoulder Straps... Citadel... Pallid Wych Flesh.
The Muskets and Packs... Citadel... Mournfang Brown.
The Musket Straps are... Vallejo... Cavalry Brown. (I keep forgetting I have this colour... it’s lovely).
The Belts are... Citadel Corax White.
Everything apart from the Tunics,Trousers and Greatcoats was given a wash of Aly’s Brown Liquid and highlighted with the original shade... the Belts were taken up to Pure White.

The paints are Citadel and Vallejo Model Color

The Flag is GMB Designs...

Next time some Sassanids...

All the best.  Aly

  1. Very pleasant to the eye, well done! But three soaks in Detol bath? Could you even see what figures were under the paint?

      They were quite rounded 😂...
It was actually the undercoat that was the most tenacious... it was probably something they used to use on battleships.

  2. A handsome flag is all of the motivation I need to push a particular unit into the painting queue. Nice work on your Prussians in all of their glossy glory.

  3. I can see why you like these. I think they're very smart too. Amidst the glamour of other nations the Prussians look like they mean business. Congratulations on rescuing them and issuing new kit.

I like the workman like look of the Prussian uniforms... it’s a nice foil to the more flamboyant French...

  4. Ah yes, the anti-nuclear flash paint. I know it well. These are just stunning, Aly! Minifigs S-Range, perhaps?

Paint that was built to last... I have feeling that sometimes it’s the only thing keeping the toys together...
Yes they are good old S-Range...

  5. Excellent addition to your Shiny collection. I think your selection of Regiments based on their standards is a great way to go. Cheers Greg

  7. Lovely paint jobs as usual Aly! I wanted to echo WMs question, S series Minifigs? In any event will be quite the force with another battalion of these all business soldiers when they are done!

  8. Great work Aly, my own selection criteria is generally the facing colours of the regiment - I like to have some variety!

    1. No game yet...
I think when I get to half a dozen infantry and two cavalry and guns a side it will be game on...

  13. They look fantastic Aly - you are putting my attempts at recreating the 1970's to shame (thanks for that). Structural paint was definitely a feature of the times - I have a batch of Hinchliffe figures brewing in Dettol - I had forgotten how 'leady' Hinchiffe figures were - Minifigs metal a cut above I think. Best.

You clearly need to try harder...
Hinchliffe were certainly more convertible... but a lot less shiny...

  14. Some fine old Minifigs there, certainly bring back some memories although even in the fog of nostalgia I don't ever recall them painted this well.

  15. Another brilliant addition, they look excellent. My friend used to do Prussian minifigs for the very reason you said - workmanlike uniform on a workmanlike figure aah life was so much simpler then 🙂
