Another New Book

 Greetings...

Here we have another book in The Uniforms of the French Armies 1690-1894 from Soldiershop Publishing...

https://soldiershop.com/shop/the-uniforms-of-french-armies-1690-1894-vol-5/

Strange as it may seem I have gone for volume five as opposed to two...

This is because I have an interest in the French National Guards and Allied Armies... so this one ticks all the boxes...

It includes the rather colourful armies of Naples...

The plate featured on the cover has an image of the un-issued yellow Hussars of the Guard uniform...

Un-issued!!!.... Well that’s not going to stop me... As soon as I find some sustainable figures I’m in there...

A splendid volume full of pretty uniforms... what more could one ask for.

All the best.   Aly

P.S. I posted this using the ‘new’ Blogger interface... It’s a bit like when you go into a trendy hipster restaurant... You know you are reading a menu in English... But you are still not sure what you are going to be eating....

Still it appears to have worked..

  1. Yep, the new Blogger interface is causing issues shall we say and doesn't appear to be very popular with Bloggers I follow.

    1. I think a lot of the issues are that it’s new... and therefore not immediately intuitive.
I work using design programs that get substantially upgraded from time to time and stuff is always changed... names of tools, positions of tools and folders on the screen and whole new gizmos and additions... none of it ever feels intuitive and guides etc seem to be written in hipster...
A couple months later I have usually forgotten what all the fuss was about...
I get the felling that a lot of the changes are aimed at iPads and mobile devices...
I shall however persevere... I like blogging...

      All the best. Aly

  2. An excellent addition to the library Aly. I like the stylised way they portrait the range of uniforms on the cover. I look forward, in time, to seeing your yellow Hussars.:-) Cheers Greg

    1. They are very useful books Greg...
I think a model of Murat with an accompanying unit of Yellow uniformed Hussars will look splendid...😁

    1. It is indeed a good one Jonathan...
The plates pop up on Pinterest from time to time... But I have always preferred books...😁

    1. I looks like I will ‘need’ to pick up the rest of the series...

I think things will improve as the newness wears off... as I have said... I shall persevere...

  5. Excellent tip: I wasn't aware of this series! As far as the new interface, the post looks good, but unfortunately the thumbnail bug hit (on blog lists, your title shows but not the thumbnail). Jonathan's August 17 post has a fix.

    1. They are great books Ed...
I am not sure Jonathan’s tip will work on iPads... which is what I am using at the moment...
I usually crop most of my pictures into a vaguely square shape... but that doesn’t really work for books. As long as people can still see that I have made a new post I can live with it...

      All the best. Aly

  6. Great looking book Aly and understand your purchasing logic completely....as soon as I read "and Allie Armies" I thought of all those red coated Swiss...but Naples and Italy would be cool too!

  8. Lovely looking book Aly. I am becoming a fan of the new Blogger interface, but then Typography and graphic design is my background so the new tools and controls are very familiar (and welcome) - my only complaint is that some of the features are a little erratic on the iPad...but then Apple and Google are competitors.

    1. With blogger , I think a lot of issues may come out of a lack of familiarity with the new interface... there are a couple of guides out there but as I’ve said they seem to be written in hipster and make assumptions about people’s knowledge...
My personal view with these things is find ten or so buttons/actions that work for you and stick to them until you are confident with them... also control Z , undo and back are your friends...😁
      All the best. Aly

  9. I am old school and prefer the old interface, it works better on my old IPad

As for the Hussars, go for it!
