Yet Another New Book...

 Greetings...

This lovely new book arrived in the post yesterday...

Painting 28mm Wargame Figures 4... The Western Front 1914-1918.

By Mark Hargreaves...

This is a splendid book... Mark is up to his usual high standard... we have all of Marks techniques on show...

It is well laid out and filled with helpful and useful information... German bayonet knot colours anyone...?

I always enjoy reading and seeing how others paint toy soldiers... so this was always going to be a must for me...

Mark asked if he could use some of my photos for background shots... I was of course delighted to say yes... I was even more delighted to see that one of my photos is on the front cover...wow!

If you are at all interested in painting khaki and Field Grey... rush out and get this.. You (and Mark)will be all the richer for you doing so...

  2. Aly, great to see yours and Mark's work getting a well deserved wider audience. I liked your comment about bayonet knots, I remember being fascinated by the variety of them and also German shoulder straps in Brian Davis's book; Germany Army Uniforms and Insignia 1933-1945. Cheers Greg

    1. It’s definitely Marks work and not mine Greg....
There is a surprising amount of colour to be found in WW1 uniforms... Facings, piping, unit and divisional patches and badges... it’s what I find most interesting about the period....

      All the best. Aly

  3. All these books Aly...you are going to have to build an extension to your library at this rate! I often visit Marks site and leave comments...the late nineteenth / early twentieth century figures he paints are truly beautiful and his scratch built vehicles inspired me in use cheap Matchbox Yesteryear models fior my own RCW Project (not that I am claiming my efforts were in the same league as what Mark does...must be something about that name and artistic model making talent...!)

    1. It’s terrible Keith... I think I am going to have to move the servants quarters...

Mark has certainly made the world of khaki his own... he is also pretty good at the brighter colours as well...
He shows quite a few of his cardboard and plastic tube artillery pieces in this volume.
      It’s all very inspirational
Yes...The name Mark and cardboard creations seem to go together...

      All the best. Aly

  4. Perhaps you might get a chance to show it to Dave? It might get him to finish the dismounted German Hussars?

  10. Always admired Mark's work and have a few of his volumes. However I try and avoid anything that might tempt me to stray from the chosen path. This is one of those temptations and I'm resisting, even though it contains some of your excellent work as well.

  12. From my own experience I can attest your figures deserve the wider audience they‘re getting now, especially when painted by Mark. Will see if I can get me a copy of this tome.
