ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Butterfly Moments... Shiny American Civil War.

Greetings...

Okay I am calling it a butterfly moment for now... but I think this one has potential.

One of the reasons that it has potential is the fact that David Andrews has given me a big bag of 20mm figures... so it would be rude not to try.

A while back I ordered some samples from Jacklex Miniatures...

http://www.jacklexminiatures.com/american-civil-war

I have to say that Mark Lodge the current owner is a fine fellow to deal with.

I have always liked Jacklex Miniatures, they have a character all of their own...

I was however taken by surprise by the genuine old school packaging...

Definitely old school...

I seem to remember Minifigs being packed in the same way many many years ago...

It was quite fun digging the toys out...although I am not sure how I would cope with a really large order.

Jesting aside this certainly reduces the amount of plastic packaging and it is recyclable.

So I painted a few up....

I have to say I am very pleased with them... they certainly tick all the shiny boxes.

I will be taking this one slowly for the moment... It’s not like I don’t have anything else to do...

The next shiny Americans will come out of the box of toys David gave me...

All the best    Aly

  4. Do you know what, they wouldn’t look as good if they weren’t shiny. I think I’m starting to “get it” finally.

  6. The one true period! Shame it's Old School and the wrong scale, but it's a start😁 Nice paint jobs though in your chosen style!👍

  7. I enjoyed seeing these. I still paint virtually everything shiny and have since my figures came in those sawdust filled boxes from Minifigs. I've still got many of the boxes though not the sawdust. They are a way of recalling old addresses and postage stamps! TFL's Infamy Infamy has seen Minifig Celts painted when I was a student on the table again after decades of waiting around. I have wondered about more Jacklex - I still have my Pathans.

  8. They are certainly very charming figures, Aly. I'm currently being distracted by the Colonial Egyptian and the Mexican ranges. Seeing how good yours look, I'm wondering if I should go shiny rather than matt.

    1. There is indeed a lot of temptation in the Jacklex catalogue.
I rather like the Russo-Japanese range

  10. The packaging certainly matches the contents Aly, very old school figures. Not really my thing as you know but if they tick your boxes, more power to you!

  11. Love the figures. Very OS indeed. And the sawdust! I remember as a lad of 14 getting my first box of Scruby figures and digging through the sawdust to get all of them. Jack didn’t use plastic bags though. The minis were scattered throughout the sawdust. Great memories.

    1. It’s an entertaining way of unwrapping things...
The stuff in the bags were an artillery piece and some smaller items...

  12. That’s a great idea that you get figures and basing material all in the same box.

  16. I already sold off all of my ACW figures Aly, so the last thing I need is you to flutter your butterflies in my direction. Shame on you! (and lovely figures...)

  17. Very nice work Aly! They certainly remind me of my uncle's toy soldiers I got to play with as a kid. But those were certainly not as cleanly painted as yours and also looked a little battered when we were done with them.

  18. Aly,
Excellent. Now I didn’t need you stirring those butterfly’s I keep visiting the Jacklex site and convincing myself I need some Russo Japanese war or Mexican revolution. Then I give myself a shake and turn away but my resolve is weakening.
