Greetings all…
This unit is now finished…
It took a little bit longer to finish than I thought it would…
Removing the extra greatcoats took up a lot of the time and the real world the rest…
Anyway here they are…
I really like how these chaps have turned out…Greatcoats often come over as rather dull things but by going a little lighter that I was initially thinking it has made them stand out and look colourful…
The Greatcoat is… Citadel… Administratum Grey.
The Trousers are… Citadel… Pallid Wych Flesh.
The Bayonet Scabbard is… Citadel… Skrag Brown.
The Water bottle is… Foundry… Buff Leather 7B.
Green bits are… Citadel… Warboss Green.
Yellow bits are… Citadel… Averland Sunset.
Red bits are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet.
As usual everything was give a wash of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then highlighted withe the original shade.

Shinly stylish soldiers.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteI gave you a Sean Connery accent when I read that…😁
All the best. Aly
Very nice indeed!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Agreed! Wonderfully rendered.
ReplyDeleteBest Regards,
Stokes
Thank you Stokes ….
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Shiny as always! How many units have you done so far for this project Aly?
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Jan
Thank you Jan…
DeleteSo far… 6 Prussian Infantry…
4 French Infantry…
1 Neapolitan Infantry…
1 Combined Rifles Battalion 95th/60th…
1 Small Jäger Company…
2 French Cavalry…
1 British Cavalry Regiment-The Royal Scots Greys…
3 French Guns in the works.
It feels like I have done more… possibly because I have a number of units soaking in Dettol…
I think 8 or 9 Infantry and 4 Cavalry a side and I will call it time for war…😁
All the best. Aly
Cool! Looking forward to seeing some battle reports!
DeleteBest wishes,
Jan
They look great to me Aly…..and colourful in a grey but not blue way for the french
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…
DeleteThey stand out nicely… In a French way.
All the best. Aly
You polished those off a treat Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you David…

A beautiful looking unit.
ReplyDeleteThank you Peter…

Hello there Aly,
ReplyDeleteLovely work old chap - I really like the clean basing with these, it sets the figures off in a pleasing old school way.
Top job!
All the best,
DC
Thank you David…
DeleteI think it takes just as much time to make the simple bases as it does to make textured ones…
But I do like they way it looks.
All the best. Aly
Splendidly old school.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul.

This project has such charm and I continue to follow it with great interest. It reminds me that it's all about toy soldiers ... as it should be.
ReplyDeleteThank you Greg…
DeleteYes it certainly is all about the toy soldiers… and the shiny 😁
All the best. Aly
They did turn out well!
ReplyDeleteI like greatcoated figures, possibly because I always looked better in my great coat than I did in the full dress scarlet which never fit properly.
Thank you Ross…
DeleteI always look better when most of me is covered up 😁
All the best. Aly
Gloriously shiny and nicely photographed Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rick…
DeleteI think I am starting to get the hang of it now…😁
All the best. Aly
I must reiterate my praise regarding this unit. You really have taken the campaign look to the next level! I love that only the grenadiers and voltigeurs are man enough to sport the moustache, while the fresh faced boys must have been conscripted into the fusiliers.
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteI believe moustaches were obligatory in the Elite Companies…I like to imagine that there was some sore of uncomfortable removal procedure if a Fusilier got caught wearing one 😬😳
All the best. Aly
Splendidly retro--and contrarian: they look quite elegant in those greatcoats!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ed…
DeleteIf I can get hold of more castings I am tempted to do another battalion…
Apparently there was very little standardisation with greatcoats…they could be anything from beige through grey to a brownish maroon…
All the best. Aly
Once they get their orders to march into Russia they’ll be wishing they still had that extra greatcoat that some swine pinched from them.
ReplyDeleteWell if they are prepared to do a classic blunder and get involved in a land war in Asia … it’s their own fault and it doesn’t matter how many coats they have…😁
DeleteThey really are delightful. Any idea when we’ll see them in action Aly?
ReplyDeleteThank you JBM…
DeleteI need a few more units… and I need to get all the crap off the wargames table…
At a guess… the end of the year-ish…
All the best. Aly
Wonderful work Aly on these miniatures. Wonderful to reflect upon Minifigs that never grow old in the minds of folks who keep them in the spotlight.
ReplyDeleteI'm just reading up on Murat's Army. Having a soft spot for a hint of colour in the uniforms.
Cheers,
Helen
Thank you Helen…
DeleteMurat… Now there was a man who liked a pretty uniform…
I am all for pretty uniforms…
All the best. Aly
Congratulations on getting these blokes finished off Aly....I did have a few of this very model back in the day...say, circa 1976.....I didn't notice the extra greatcoat roll though!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith…
DeleteWhen Minifigs re-did the range they corrected the error…though I am not exactly sure when that was.
All the best. Aly
These are beautiful Aly.
ReplyDeleteI'm very jealous of the fusiliers. I'm assuming MF made them that way? I could never fathom why so many of the other manufacturers only produced greatcoated French elite companies, if they bothered to make them at all. Perhaps they were expecting their customers to convert them?
All the best
WM
Thank you Matthew…
DeleteIt is strange how some of these ranges were put together… I suspect you could do an entire post dedicated to the how’s and why’s …
I know myself how you can run out of steam on a range… but only doing elite troops in greatcoats is a bit odd…
Unless of course something happened when moulding the fusiliers and the sculptor just never got round to redoing them… we may never know.
All the best. Aly
Aly
ReplyDeleteDamn fine looking body of men. Surely it must be time for a mass parade?
Thank you Graham…
DeleteThat would mean clearing all the boxes off my wargames table 😂
Fear not there will be one…. Soon-ish.
All the best. Aly
Splendid looking greatcoated unit, even allowing for your mania in removing the additional blanket, still lovely shiny and fun!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain…
DeleteIt was worth the effort…now they won’t annoy me every time I look at them.. 😁
All the best. Aly
Those really are lovely Aly - the light greatcoat colour is a great idea that really make a classy contrast with the elite company facings giving the unit a real pop
ReplyDeleteThank you Kerry …
