Lion Rampant… Nellie!

 Greetings…

So here we have ‘Nellie’…. My Sassanid Elephant…

I know I shouldn’t but…

It’s always worth a listen….😁

This was both fun and strenuous to paint… A lead elephant is heavy…

Well I suppose it would be…🙄😂

All the best    Aly.

  1. Nice 'phant. I particularly like the howdah. I know they are rarely that useful on the table-top but they do tend to mesmerize the opposing player like an enemy flame-thrower - everything gets thrown at it to get it away from you.

    1. Thank you …

It is indeed more of a psychological weapon… but it is pretty 😁…

Is there an Elephant flame-thrower option…?

  2. A splendid Dumbo there added to your collection! The A&A efalump was my preferred choice too, but they were on special offer when I bought mine so I may have been influenced ...

It took a bit of filling to get it to fit together… but I think it was worth the effort.

  4. Wonderful piece of work - if ever I saw a wargame unit which is certain to be eliminated by a freak dice roll in turn 1, this could be it...

The fact that most rules have a result that says something like “roll X and elephant stampedes”… it’s effect may be limited…
      If not disastrous 😳

I have checked and wargames related puns are indeed a bit thin on the ground.

  7. Beautiful piece. Agree with dice roll comment - the better they look, the worse their dice rolls seems to be a trope that has merit.

      Clearly a doomed beauty…
As an old friend used to say.. style over content…

It was indeed the daftest version of that song I could find…
I am sure they used to Pack-yderm them in when they gigged in the 1980’s.

  13. Its all been said. A beautiful beast and crew.

I of course presume that the howdah blanket thingie with the intricate pattern was carefully and precisely hand painted.

  15. Splendid looking elephant! The only figures I collected for ancient armies in the late 1970s were 3 25mm minifigs elephants, I need to build some armies about them, the flamethrower version sounds ace!

I rather liked the old Minifigs Elephants… not as heavy as the more modern types.

Yes I see nothing wrong with a good old…
      Elefant Flammenwerfer Panzerkampffahrzeug…

  16. Fantastic work on the Nellie Aly! Looks great.
And Toy Dolls... Love them. To be honest when I saw the title of your post I thought I will give a link to the song. No need to though as you've already done it ;-)

    2. I was at their concert in Warsaw in 1995 and I'm a bit surprised that they are still playing. I don't think I would go now though as I'm afraid it would ruin my good memories ;-)

    3. It’s their 40th anniversary… and they are indeed planning a tour.
They must all be about 60 by now…

    4. Actually the band was formed in 1979 buth their 40th anniversary is spread till 2022 (I guess due to obvious reasons) with concerts in UK in 2022, and you are right Olga will be 60 next year. Time flies!

  17. Enjoyed both the elephant and song!
Your painting only reinforces my decision to go Gilder-Old-School if I do Romans* and Sassanids.
I originally typed 'Romans' as 'Ramones' must be getting old....

Shiny Sassanids would indeed look lovely…
Ramones… listening to the Toy Dolls clearly got you into a Punk frame of mind 😁
