Greetings…
The painting may have slowed down a bit recently… but the reading (book buying)continues with vigour…
I picked up these books by Simon Macdowall because I am continuing my reading around the Roman history in the 3rd century and beyond… I have no plans to start any armies at the moment but the subject is interesting.
I have started reading the Vandals which is so far an enjoyable and informative book…
Another set of Napoleonic rules…
These are a rather nice looking quick play set… I will certainly give them a go when I have enough shiny toys painted…
King Philips War…
Well because it’s interesting…
Although Brigade Games does have a range of miniatures…🙄😳😂

Again something I have always been interested in…
I have had a quick scan through and it looks very interesting…
Also my friend Florian did the illustrations…
I have also finished my Shiny Napoleonic French 18th Line Infantry… I am just waiting for a flag to come from GMB…
Keep safe and well…
All the best Aly
Someone's got a lot of reading to do!
ReplyDeleteIt’s a tough job… but I think I am up to it 😁
DeleteWhen the painting slows, the book buying does not. Same here!
ReplyDeleteVery true Jonathan…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
One can never have too many books.
ReplyDelete“Too many books”
DeleteNope… I have no idea what you are talking about…😁
Space issues mean I have to be selective in my book buying, but I still treat myself now and then:)
ReplyDeleteTreating yourself to a book …or three… Is good for your soul 😁
DeleteSo it is well worth the effort…
Fortunately as part of my up and coming home improvements… I am planning for another bookcase…
All the best. Aly
Plenty to inspire there, oh, and fuel that butterfly we all harbour...😉
ReplyDeleteYes… though in my case fuelling the butterfly is fairly easy 😁
DeleteAll the best. Aly
A nice collection of books there Aly and I am sure you could stretch to painting some Franks, Goths and Vandals....not to mention Huns and Scythians!
ReplyDeleteYes… Belisarius fighting the Vandals in North Africa does have a certain appeal.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Simon always did love his Goths and friends. When we were in college, he was painting up a unit of Minifig Goth unarmoured cavalry when a fly landed in a puddle of not quite set epoxy. He quickly impaled it and it became their standard. Never known a unit so lucky with their dice until the day...but that's another story.
ReplyDeleteTempting books all!
They are indeed nice books…
DeleteThe new standard probably gave them the extra buzz they needed to fight better 😬
All the best. Aly
There is much growing interest in King Phillip's War among our group--a nice combination of the pike and shot era with colonial/French and Indian War flavorings (and as a group in Northern New England, being located in the seat of the conflict adds to the zest). Wasn't aware of this Osprey: it will be of much interest to our fellows!
ReplyDeleteIt’s a period I didn’t know much about, but then I saw that Mark over at the My Brave Fusiliers blog had started it as a new project…
Deletehttps://bravefusiliers.blogspot.com/2021/06/what-i-worked-on-this-week.html
And then I saw the book… 😁
Which is very good indeed…
All the best. Aly
Funny you should mention Mark: he's a friend and member of our little gaming club.
DeleteNot enough in a lifetime to read what needs to be read ...Nice choices!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed Phil…
DeleteAnd then there are all the toy soldiers to paint…
All the best. Aly
Nice selection of books, I did smile when I read" I have no plans to any armies at the moment..." it's good that you left, at the moment in, just in case!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
You never know where the wargames butterfly will land next Iain…😁
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Interesting collection Aly…….I am really trying no.t to buy more books unless they are absolutely vital. I just have too many😢
ReplyDeleteToo many books… ???
DeleteI recognise the words… but when you arrange them in that way… I simply don’t understand what it says 😂😂😂
All the best. Aly
I hope you like the book on King Philips War. I enjoyed it very much. The Sudbury fight and the actions at Lancaster are in my area.
ReplyDeleteThe War of 1812 naval history, Revenge in the name of honour is on my reading list so I would be most interested in your opinion.
If you get over to this side of the pond I would be delighted to give you a tour of the sites.
I read King Philips War as soon as it arrived… it was very good.
DeleteI have only had quick scan over Revenge in the Name of Honour… it certainly looks interesting…
I would love go for a tour… hopefully sooner rather than later 😁
All the best. Aly
