ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

The War of 1812… American and British Command.

Greetings…

Just to be a bit different I decided to start this little project by painting up some command figures…

It seemed like a good way of seeing how well my shiny new Knuckleduster miniatures would paint up.

I am very pleased with the results…

This is the first time that I have painted any of the Knuckleduster War of 1812 range… I do know that they are not to everyone’s taste, but I am quite taken by their slightly quirky style and I found them very easy to paint.

I have based them the same as my 3rd Century Romans but instead of adding small stones I have added little pieces of Privet hedge branch that I took from the garden.

The American Tunics are… Citadel… Kantor Blue.

The British Tunics are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet… with Kantor Blue Facings.

The Breeches are… Citadel… Pallid Wych Flesh.

The Sashes are… Citadel… Mephiston Red.

The Officers Gold Braid is… Citadel… Retributor Armour mixed with some Foundry Ochre Light 4C

The Horses were painted using various Citadel Contrast Browns.

As always everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and highlighted with the original colours.

The paints are Wargames Foundry and Citadel...

The bases are as always...

They are of course also available directly from Knuckleduster…

A gentle start… but there is plenty more to come.

All the best    Aly

  2. Beautiful miniatures, by a manufacturer we did not know: the dynamic but natural poses are appreciable, in our opinion. The paint job exalts them, and they will make a great impression on the battlefield, at the head of their armies!

Hopefully it won’t be to long before we can see which one the gods of dice favour most…

  4. Very nice Aly - and despite you contriving to get the word "shiny" into your post, they aren't - which I have to say, I do prefer! I am just finishing off seven TAG English Border Militia and then will be starting on a unit of OG War of 1812 US infantry - might have a few ready to post by the weekend!

They do have some shiny bits on them though…😁

  5. Very nice Aly. Some of the best paintjobs I've seen on the range and improving my opinion of them as a result.

I am starting to feel that they have a bit of a chunky Hinchliffe vibe about them…

  7. Lovely Aly. Funny thing about miniatures - some are a chore to paint and some a delight. Looking forward to your future army.

The frustrating thing is that you can’t tell which figures will be a chore until you start painting them…

  10. Well, the 1812 affair was fairly quirky so quirky miniatures seem quite appropriate.

In any case, they painted up well.

    2. hmm, with all the woods, lakes and rivers, probably more like the AWI with different hats....

    3. True…
And the hats make all the difference 😁

  12. Wot, not shiny! I do like it when proper dark blue is used on figures, rather than the near light blue often seen. They turned out well and it will be interesting to see how the project unfolds.

There is a little bit of shiny on them…
I like my dark colours to actually be dark… it gives a nice solid contrast to work up the lighter colours.

  13. Very nice work. I usually try to do one or two 'standard' units before I treat myself to a command stand or artillery battery.

That’s what I normally do…but it thought it would make a nice change to try some command types first.

  14. Good start! The riders on the right should pull the reins though, as the horses will either damage themselves due to the tight girth or will try to buck off the guy on the top ;-)

    Best wishes,

That would make for an amusing alternative command figure… a Brigadier with poor riding skills 😂

  15. What sizes and thickness do you use for the bases? The figures remind me of Elite Miniatures. Nice paint job!

    1. The figures are on 45mm round…3mm thick bases.
They do have a bit of an Elite vibe to them.
