40mm Napoleonics… Rust and Malchanceux.

Greetings…

Hurrah!… A new post… A new project and a new scale.

You didn’t see that coming…

A while ago I started painting some Peninsular War figures for my Song of Drums and Shakos collection…

https://alystoysoldiers.blogspot.com/search/label/A%20Song%20of%20Drums%20and%20Shakos

I really enjoy painting them and was looking forward to having enough to play a game…

And then I saw the lovely game put on at Partizan by The Friends of Ian Smith…

https://alystoysoldiers.blogspot.com/2022/05/partizan-2022.html

That was it…
The Butterfly Fluttered and this time it didn’t stop.

The painted Perry Miniatures plastics were sent to a nice new home and some lovely new 40mm Perry Miniatures were acquired…

And to start…here are.

The Villainous Rust…

The Glorious and Dashing Malchanceux…

Rust’s colours are…
Tunic… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet with a touch of Wild Rider Red.
Overalls… Citadel… Administratum Grey.
Overalls Linings… Citadel… Skrag Brown.

Malchanceux’s colours are…
Tunic… Citadel… Kantor Blue plus a touch of Caledor Sky.
Trousers… Citadel… Khorne Red.
Belts… Citadel… Skrag Brown.

I painted everything in my usual way… but added a few extra highlights and a little more work on the faces.
I really enjoyed painting these fellows and have already started painting more…

The figures are Perry Miniatures…

The bases are as always…

More 40mm to come and I have started a couple of 15mm test figures.

All the best.  Aly

  7. There are several butterflies around thus particular flower at the moment Aly, and why not, 40mm has akways struck me as a great scale for skirmish gaming, and the figures are great....I could easily be tempted by the Front Rank AWI for example......(must resist.....!)

    1. Resistance is futile Keith… as well you know.
The Front Rank AWI are indeed lovely… the butterfly fluttered past them a while ago… it may yet go back.

Yes I have comment moderation on…

  9. Love these Aly! The butterfly curse strikes! Absolutely superb, I've been drawn like a moth to the flames of 40mm as well, but so far I've resisted. Though in the larger scales a certain Shiny Toy Soldiers have nearly drawn me in...I'm saving for a special project.

    Cheers

  10. I admire your discipline in getting rid of a project when starting a new one, if only... I do like your choice of finish (varnish) to bring out the difference between cloth and leather - I do this sometimes for metal or to differentiate leather from fabric.

    1. I think you are confusing opportunity and unrestrained fluttering with discipline…
They can look the same from a distance though 🤪.
The gloss, matte and satin finishes work really well on these bigger scale figures… and 28mm.
