Greetings…
Hurrah!… A new post… A new project and a new scale.
You didn’t see that coming…
A while ago I started painting some Peninsular War figures for my Song of Drums and Shakos collection…
https://alystoysoldiers.blogspot.com/search/label/A%20Song%20of%20Drums%20and%20Shakos
I really enjoy painting them and was looking forward to having enough to play a game…
And then I saw the lovely game put on at Partizan by The Friends of Ian Smith…

The Butterfly Fluttered and this time it didn’t stop.
The painted Perry Miniatures plastics were sent to a nice new home and some lovely new 40mm Perry Miniatures were acquired…
And to start…here are.
The Villainous Rust…
The Glorious and Dashing Malchanceux…
Rust’s colours are…
Tunic… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet with a touch of Wild Rider Red.
Overalls… Citadel… Administratum Grey.
Overalls Linings… Citadel… Skrag Brown.
Malchanceux’s colours are…
Tunic… Citadel… Kantor Blue plus a touch of Caledor Sky.
Trousers… Citadel… Khorne Red.
Belts… Citadel… Skrag Brown.
I painted everything in my usual way… but added a few extra highlights and a little more work on the faces.
I really enjoyed painting these fellows and have already started painting more…
The figures are Perry Miniatures…
The paints are from…

The bases are as always…
More 40mm to come and I have started a couple of 15mm test figures.
All the best. Aly
Oooh Aly those are really sweet. I can see why the butterfly took wing.
ReplyDeleteThank you JBM…
DeleteSometimes the butterfly lands on the most delightful blooms…
All the best. Aly

DeleteClearly great minds/butterflies think alike…
I look forward to seeing more of your toys.
All the best. Aly
The figures certainly have a character and expression about them. Wonderfully painted.
ReplyDeleteThank you Peter…
DeleteThey were a joy to paint…
All the best. Aly
With your Inner Butterfly, a new project and a new scale are hardly shocking to see. Super launch to your new endeavor!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan…
DeleteYes I suppose I have got “ butterfly” history 😂.
I think what surprised me was the speed that I went from pondering to painting…
All the best. Aly
Those are rather nice Aly! A good project, metal trumping plaaastic every time for me!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteYup! I much prefer metal…
They feel like toy soldiers… if you know what I mean.
All the best. Aly
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you Warburton…

ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteI am looking forward to painting more…
All the best. Aly
There are several butterflies around thus particular flower at the moment Aly, and why not, 40mm has akways struck me as a great scale for skirmish gaming, and the figures are great....I could easily be tempted by the Front Rank AWI for example......(must resist.....!)
ReplyDeleteResistance is futile Keith… as well you know.
DeleteThe Front Rank AWI are indeed lovely… the butterfly fluttered past them a while ago… it may yet go back.
Yes I have comment moderation on…
All the best. Aly
Nice figures Ally, its gonna be an expensive butterfly, me thinks??
ReplyDeleteThank you Ray…
DeleteI am going to keep it to a skirmish level… honest.
All the best. Aly
Love these Aly! The butterfly curse strikes! Absolutely superb, I've been drawn like a moth to the flames of 40mm as well, but so far I've resisted. Though in the larger scales a certain Shiny Toy Soldiers have nearly drawn me in...I'm saving for a special project.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Meic
Thank you Meic…
DeleteAs I said to Keith… resistance is futile…
I would certainly be interested to see your take on Shiny Toy Soldiers…
All the best. Aly
I admire your discipline in getting rid of a project when starting a new one, if only... I do like your choice of finish (varnish) to bring out the difference between cloth and leather - I do this sometimes for metal or to differentiate leather from fabric.
ReplyDeleteI think you are confusing opportunity and unrestrained fluttering with discipline…
DeleteThey can look the same from a distance though 🤪.
The gloss, matte and satin finishes work really well on these bigger scale figures… and 28mm.
All the best. Aly
Those butterflies of yours are killing me! I have a grand total of three Perry 40mm figures, and I must say they are lovely! Must not acquire more...
ReplyDelete“I must not acquire more”… We have all said that before David…And we have all acquired a lot more 😂
DeleteHave you painted your three figures?
All the best. Aly.
They are! No pictures unfortunately, but here are some 40mm fantasy figures: http://miniatureminions.blogspot.com/2015/09/mindstalkers-40mm-italian-medieval.html
DeleteVery nice old chap….
DeleteJust imagine what a bunch of French Grenadiers would look like 😁…
Butterflies are good, especially when they produce results like this!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rob…
DeleteI have grown very fond of my butterfly…
All the best. Aly
A surprising new project, lovely, the only real surprise is you failed to retain your non shiny 28mms! These are very nice though.
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain…
DeleteThey went to a good home… and have a greater chance of being used…
All the best. Aly
