ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Sunday 20 November 2022

From My Side of the Table… A Wargames Marathon.

Greetings…

Last weekend our good friend Jan popped over to the Lead Belt for a visit and Alan and Michael (Perry) organised a weekend of gaming….
There was a game on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday…
I made it to the Friday and Sunday games… and to an enjoyable Saturday night out.

Here is Alan and Michael’s account of the games/weekend…

The Friday game was a War of the Roses affair which ended in a brutal and bloody draw.

The Baddies…Mostly because I wasn’t commanding them…

The Goodies…

The view from the Forces of goodness…

Our compatriots from the Emerald Isle…

The cavalry brace themselves…

Basically everyone just charged at each other and went full on stabby stabby…

Stab…

Stab…

And Stab..

More Stabbing…

Yup!…

In the end both sides were completely shattered…and stabbed…so we went to the pub😁

Sunday’s game was The Battle of Giniss 1885…

I’ve played this one before…

So… Another chance for the Enthusiastic Giniss Defence League to throw the Imperial Colonial Forces from their land…

Here we see the occupants of Giniss fully distracted and engaged in a community sewing bee…

An Imperial Colonial forward observation post keeps watch on our innocence pleasures…

The Defence League are also giving the village cannon a good clean and polish…

Meanwhile… The stomp and crash of Imperial Colonial boots goes unnoticed…

Suddenly alerted we drop our needles and thread and snatch up our pointy sticks…

Stomp, Stomp, Stomp and Stomp…

Towards the least observant village security guard in the history of village security guards…

Pointed sticks in hand the Enthusiast Giniss Defence League rush forward to defend their homes and local community health and sports centre…

Take that!… we got one of them… Hurrah! (It is of course possible that he may have just tripped over).

“Hi there…I like your nice red jackets “

“Can you keep an eye on these horses please”
“Yeah…no problem “
🙄

This did not end well…

Charge…

Charge…

And charge…
I think you may be able to guess where this all ends…

The beautifully polished cannon let’s rip…

Hah!…
Another one bites the dust… hopefully.

In we went… lots of stabby stabby… we even made some Imperial Colonial Bootlicking Whelps run away…
Sadly pointed sticks and beautifully made cardboard shields are no good against cannons, machine guns and modern breechloading rifles…
So we ran away…

But we took the keys to the Local Community Health and Sports Centre with us… and emptied the Jacuzzi.

Considering the result this was a lot of fun…. My dice throwing was truly appalling 😂

A great weekend was had by all and it was splendid to meet up with Jan again.

All the best. Aly

  2. They do look like lovely games Aly....what were the Shamricks doing n the Wars of the Rises...they just can't stay home if there is a fight somewhere, can they? I thought most WotR battles involved quite a lot of arrow, arrow...?? As for the Sunday game, very reminiscent of our Sudan outing about a month ago....hence the reason many members of our group are or have painted additional members of the EGDL recently. Of course, the evil, Colonialist boots of oppression may not make so much noise in all that sand.....😀

Apparently there were Irish troops at the Battle of Mortimers Cross…
You make a good point…I forgot to add twang, twang and arrow, arrow but then it does kind of end in a pit of stabby 😳
The Giniss Defence League needs to invest in more shooty sticks.
The Giniss area is known for its crunchy sand 😂

  4. A weekend of splendid toys and (dodgy) dice rolling, win or lose it can't be bad.

  5. After reading and watching your reports, we are always amazed at the magnificence of the battles that the Perry twins manage to stage. Are the tables and armies theirs? What rules did you use for both battles?
In our opinion, the village guard is a brilliant traitor who pretends to be an idiot, but who immediately guessed what the winning side of the table would be...

    1. Alan and Michael certainly know how to put on a good show…
The rules were Black Powder and Hail Caesar…
I have had my suspicions about that guard…🤔

  7. Hi Aly! It was a great weekend indeed! All the games were fun (as always) with a great great time before, during and after. The WotR was very close! I'm glad I could share the forces with you ;-) As to Sudan... I think you lost as the guy on the rock was spying for us ;-)

    All the best!

I did wonder when the ‘guard’ said his name was Bert Smith… it’s quite an unusual nave for the Ginnis area 😂.

  8. What a marathon gaming weekend you had. I do miss a big game now and then, but have learned to be thankful for what I have. I see you dice throws have not improved though...🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲

The bigger the game the worse the dice 🤣
