Greetings …
Another slow time with the paint brushes…I’m still putting books back on shelves and I have the disruption of builders returning in the next week or so…
So here are a unit of Hinchliffe 5th Westphalian Landwehr…
In reality they were an under strength unit so only having three stands is fairly accurate… But I will probably get another six figures and bring it up to a four stand unit… They never carried a Standard but I may add one to the extra stand anyway.
For a change I have painted these in a “Wellington Man” style…

This is not the first time I have done this…

Although unlike Matthew I will be using acrylic paints rather than enamels…
As I have said these were painted in the “Wellington Man” style… So Base Coat, Wash, Dry Brush and Black lining out…
Here are the basic colours that I used…
Coat and Hat… Citadel… Kantor Blue with a Citadel Drakenhof Blue wash then given a Kantor Blue Dry Brush.
Trousers… Citadel… Pallid Wych Flesh with a Brown Liquid Wash then a Pallid Wych Flesh Dry Brush.
Facings… Citadel… Warboss Green.
Belts… Citadel… Corax White then pure White Highlights.
Napsack and Backpack… Foundry… Moss Light 29c with a Brown Liquid Wash and then Moss Light Highlights.
Black lining was added between the colours and some additional lighter Edge Highlights were added.
The different style made for a refreshing change to my normal process and was a lot of fun.
Although I don’t know how Matthew manages to paint whole armies… I definitely don’t have the patience 😁
All the best Aly

Nice looking shiny unit Aly.

Glorious. Well done Aly.

Yes, very handsome troops. They bring early Gilder units to mind.
ReplyDeleteKind Regards,
Stokes
Thank you Stokes…
DeleteThere is definitely a large pinch of Gilder in them…
All the best. Aly
Another great addition, the green certainly stands out well. The look is just my style as I paint everything with acrylics and varnish with gloss.
ReplyDeleteLike you, new units, arrive slowly compared to the work of many others.
Stephen
Thank you…
DeleteIt was the Green facings that made me pick this unit.
I find Acrylics a lot easier to work with and there is a lot more choice of colours available.
All the best. Aly
Highcliffe figures, that takes me back to the 1970's! I can almost smell the white spirit! Nice job on those vintage chappies!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteI certainly don’t miss that smell of white spirits… Or painting horses with Artists Oils…
All the best. Aly
Superbly shiny back to black lining.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…

It's an effective method. Nice figures.

Very nice Aly and nothing like a shiny unit to cheer up a rainy Monday morning 👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…
DeleteWith a 70% chance of rain… I think it’s the only Shiny thing I will see today 😁.
All the best. Aly
They look very nice indeed Aly, if they’re anything like my Landwehr they will be in for a glorious career!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ian…
DeleteA glorious career would certainly make a change from my normal results…😁
All the best. Aly
Well those lads look ruddy spiffy don’t they! There’s a guy I know who still uses enamels for some reason. What a faff!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark…
DeleteI gave up on enamels decades ago… I would be too scared to try them now 😁.
All the best. Aly
They look great Aly - good to see you back on the shinys :)
ReplyDeleteThank you old chap…
DeleteIt’s always nice to get back to the shinys 😁
All the best. Aly
Lovely as always, and I can't tell that they're done with acrylics as you've matched WM's style so well. I think they deserve a flag, and as so many landwehr units used them despite them not being regulation, and that means no-one will be able to prove the 5th didn't have one.
ReplyDeleteI've given up trying WM-style and stuck with my more impressionistic approach, and for that matter still using enamels. I've tried acrylics but found them but, to quote JBM, what a faff - I'm clearly doing something wrong.
Thank you Rob…
DeleteI have a feeling that they will get a flag…
I reckon it’s best to stick with what you are used to… If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
All the best. Aly
Nice n shiny Aly!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ray…
DeleteThey are indeed…

Very shiny and very handsome Prussians!

Great looking, clever to make the unit small and leave the door open to paint a few more later. As for a standard, it is more romantic to be given a standard made by the wives, daughters and sweethearts -'----- unofficially, than one issued by the state.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe…
DeleteI shall look for a suitably pretty flag…
All the best. Aly
Blooming marvellous!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…

Only you could make a blue/green color combination look this good. I also agree with Rob, and a unit this spectacular deserves a standard!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteI have acquired the extra figures so a standard will be added…
All the best. Aly
A joy. That green on the hat is only a small part of the total, but it absolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Norm…

Absolutely brilliant!
