Greetings…
Here we have a Prussian gun and crew painted in the ‘Wellington Way’.
One of my biggest influences when I started my Shiny Napoleonics collection was Wellington Man (AKA Matthew) from The Hinton Spieler Blog.
https://thehintonspieler.blogspot.com/
Just looking at the gem like quality of his toys made me want something similar for myself…
I realised recently that I have never tried to paint anything in his particular style…
Matthew has rather conveniently posted some tutorials on his blog…
https://thehintonspieler.blogspot.com/p/how-i-paint.html
I have followed his guidance as close as I can … But I have used acrylic paint as I am not brave enough to use Humbrol Enamels…
The figures are PN 32, 33, 34, and 35.
The Cannon is FNA 4… I think.
The Tunics are… Citadel… Administratum Grey.
The Trousers are… Citadel… Mechanicus Standard Grey.
The Gaiters are… Citadel… Corvus Black.
The Gun Carriage is… Citadel… Russ Grey.
This was an enjoyable little project and I am very pleased with the results… I will definitely be painting more toys in this style.
All the best. Aly
Those are well up to snuff for the shiny collection!

Grade A+ as usual. Loving the chaps side burns.

Excellent Aly - these fellows made me smile this morning, which is most welcome. They have a pleasing, cheerful purposefulness.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tony…
DeleteIt’s always nice to put a smile on someone’s face…😁

Wonderfully shiny!
ReplyDeleteMatthew's painting style is not unlike that of Peter Gilder as outlined in a giveaway booklet in Military Modelling...
Neil
Thank you Neil…
DeleteVery Peter Gilder indeed… He was an inspiration to us all…
All the best. Aly
You captured this style perfectly!

Real gems! Funny, I still paint with enamels and never thought it a brave thing to be doing--quite the opposite, in fact: don't have the gumption to do the switch.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ed…
DeleteI used to paint with enamels but these days they are well outside my comfort zone…
All the best. Aly
Nice, simple , effective. Everything a wargames figure should be.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rob…
DeleteI will certainly use the Wellington Way again…

The shiniest of the shiny those guys… beautifully done 👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…

They're a pretty informal looking bunch, where are their parade uniforms?
ReplyDeleteThey look really nice and as I have some French infantry on the go they look much more enticing as candidates for the painting table.
They are indeed an informal lot Rob…
DeleteI thought I would go for a simple uniform when trying a new technique…
I suspect French infantry would be a bit more involved…
All the best. Aly
Very nicely painted figures Aly, still fighting the urge to re-enter Napoleonics. Which is not helped by seeing some of my painted Napoleonics I sold 10 years ago up for sale on flea-bay.

Thank you Willz…
DeleteI think your painting style would definitely suit the Old School/Vintage Napoleonic look.
Go on ….. You know you want to 😈
All the best. Aly
They are sublime, Aly. The Wellington Way continues to evolve since I wrote those 'how I paint 'em' pages, mind you, because every time I see your wonderful post I want to make my soldiers look more like yours.
ReplyDeleteThank you Matthew…
DeleteMaybe there will come a time when I eventually paint like you and you paint like me 🤣
All the best. Aly
Well now isn't this a love fest, and appropriately so. I try to emulate both of you, and I'm not sure where I landed, but it works well enough. After the Poles, I could use a nice workman like uniform for a change! Very nice Aly. Still using the liquid brown though, even when painting the Wellington way?
DeleteThank you David…
DeleteThere is certainly nothing wrong with your lovely toys…
I avoided using Brown Liquid on these… I used a Paynes Grey wash on the uniforms and the gun…
And a flesh wash on the…. Flesh 😁
All the best. Aly
Splendid retro shiny chaps, lovely!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain…
DeleteAll the best. Aly.
Delightful and at your shiny best Aly.
ReplyDeleteI am intrigued by the grey uniforms. Are they to give a sorta landwehr look to them? Ah, I see the answer in your answer to Rob above...
I switched to acrylics in the 90s and would never go back to enamels. Acrylics and so much easier and nicer to work with and to mix and I don't miss that turpentine smell nor the more difficult clean-up.
Regards, James
Thank you James…
DeleteThe fatigue uniform definitely makes for a different looking Prussian… They were certainly issued to provisional companies and reservists and more than likely worn by regulars as well.
Like yourself once I found acrylics I new there was no going back to enamels…
All the best. Aly
They are gorgeous Aly, top job!
