Greetings…
I picked up this rather nice book at the Oxfam Book shop in the town centre today…
Battlefields of the Marne 1914… An Illustrated History and Guide.
It’s one of the Illustrated Michelin Guides to the Battlefields (1914-1918)… Published in 1919.
As you can see it’s lavishly illustrated…And filled with plenty information to help you find your way around the battlefield…
And in pretty good condition considering its age…
All the best. Aly
A grand find. Now you need to go on a tour!
ReplyDeleteIt did cross my mind 😁

An excellent booklet. Great series, yours is only third one I have seen.
ReplyDeleteI am going to keep an eye out for more…

That is a very nice find, a real piece of history.
ReplyDeleteIt’s always worth popping into Oxfam…

That was a great find, great photos and some beautifully reproduced maps / floorplans of a quality that modern publishers should aspire to.
ReplyDeleteThe quality of the maps is exceptional… they are very detailed and are actually printed on a heavier weight of paper.
DeleteThey are only one sided and are glued onto a tab rather than being bound into the book…
It makes me wonder if they were designed to be removed for ease of use…
All the best. Aly
Good find. Charity shops have always been a great source for books, etc.
ReplyDeleteI think we have at least half a dozen charity shops on our little high street… The only thing I haven’t found is toy soldiers 😁

That's an interesting book Aly....some WWI figures and gaming on the horizon for you, perhaps?!!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed…
DeleteI already have two WW1 collections that I share with my friend Dave Andrews… We haven’t had them out on the table for quite some time… So maybe something for the New Year.
All the best. Aly
What a fabulous find, I do love a charity shop search.
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed Meic…
DeleteYou never know what you will find… The Oxfam Book Shop is particularly good.

Now that is a real find, make no mistake about it! Many years ago when I worked in London, I used to walk past the old Michelin office, which I think had become a Conran restaurant by then...
ReplyDeleteI’m a bit surprised it wasn’t snapped up quicker…
DeleteI imagine the Michelin office to be quite a grand affair…
All the best. Aly
I used to work next door and pop-in during lunch breaks.

It’s bad enough walking past the shop on a fairly regular basis… But next door… All week… I would be doomed 😱🤣

Lovely little find, I think I prefer a secondhand book as you never know what exiting book you're going to get!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
I have to admit the realising that I had bought a book that was over a hundred years old… For under a tenner… Puta smile on my face…
DeleteAnd on top of that … It’s an excellent book.
All the best. Aly
Nice book Aly and significant historical interest….do we see a holiday com8ng soon ?
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely little book Matt…
DeleteA trip would certainly be interesting… maybe once I’ve retired.
All the best. Aly
These are beaut Aly. Several of them are available as pdfs on the sensational archive.org site. Not the same as an actual book, I understand, but a really economical way to get one's hands on them. Printable, if you want to.
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
While I was doing a bit of research on the book I did find that there were a couple of sources offering pdf’s…
DeleteAs useful as these are I have to admit that I much prefer the feel… And smell… of the real thing.
Maybe I need to make a visit to Hay-on-Wye next year…
All the best. Aly
