Shiny Napoleonics… The Thuringian Battalion… Part 4

Greetings….

At long last …. They are done.

This is the command stand…

I have represented them in the later Prussian style uniforms..The infantry are PN 35.. The Officer is PN 8

The Drummer is PN 23.

They carried no flag…

A rather pleasing workmanlike appearance…
I am really glad they are finished…

The Tunics are… Citadel… Kantor Blue.
The Trousers are… Citadel… Administratum Grey.
The Gaiters are… Citadel… Corvus Black.
The Greatcoats are… Citadel… Mechanicus Standard Grey.
The Muskets and Backpacks are… Citadel… Mournfang Brown.
The Facings are… Citadel… Hoeth Blue.
As always everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then highlighted with the original colours.

The whole unit…

The figures are Minifigs…

The paints are Citadel…

  2. Brilliant as always Aly! It's a shame the Minifigs catalogue link doesn't work though - they never do when you link to specific pages.

I have changed the link to one for Home page… Which seems to work.

      All the best. Aly

  3. A real blast from the past Aly....I think the drummer may be French, but it's 45 years since I had anything much to do with Minfigs, so I am likely mistaken!

    1. I remembered that the numbers are on the top of the base for these later Minifigs… Doh!
The post has been suitably altered…

It’s a shame they were never issued a flag… They were quite a short lived unit, they still managed to see a lot of action… They were down to 90 men by the end of October 1813 and were amalgamated with a weakened Fusilier battalion… Then disbanded at the end of that year…

      All the best. Aly

  6. Most splendid, your shiny stuff always makes me nostalgic about my shiny late Romans and British Marlburian Minifigs. One wonders if they are still used or lying in someone's loft or even the ultimate horror have been consigned to the tip😱

Maybe you need to get back into the Shiny 😁
I’m sure no one put miniatures painted by in the tip…

  8. A nice look back, an unusual unit that is ephemeral in real life but with you always now. Minifigs were always used on my tables, in fact still make up a quarter of the Swedish units. Wonderful job in brushwork. And the number of the castings are indeed on the top.

  13. They are gorgeous. I saw the link; these are S-range aren't they and so no longer available from Minifigs (Caliver)?
Shiny is nice on old-school but... I've just spray varnished Saruman and Wormtongue only to find I'd picked up a can of gloss instead of matt - cue some truly inventive invective.

      Ouch…. At least it wasn’t undercoat…😧

  15. I've chimed in before, but I'll say it again. It's a fine thing to see this unique unit (captured in so unique--yet still accurate--way). Bravo!

  16. Sorry to be late to the party Aly. A very nice regiment of grim Prussians nicely presented. Have you designated a leader to usher them into battle yet? If he's anything like a certain Neapolitan figure, I'm sure he will be splendid!

I think the Colonel will be dressed in the later uniform Dark Blue with Light Blue facings…. Practical and neat.

  17. Hi Aly, I’ve been a fan of your shiny Napoleonics since early 2020. You’ve inspired me to start my own shiny 25mm Waterloo Armies project. I’ve been collecting quite a few old Minifigs and Del Prado (mostly for the horses, which are magnificent) on ebay and started refurbishing them. The results aren’t quite as nice as your absolutely perfect paintjobs, but are fun and shiny toy soldiers. Thank you for the inspiration!

I am pleased that I have inspired someone to become a follower of the shiny…
I have to admit I was rather tempted by the Del Prado figures… but I was already too deep into Minifigs…

      All the best. Aly

    2. The Del Prado infantry are a bit underwhelming, but the cavalry are very impressive. The heads on the riders are noticeably smaller than Minifigs, but some are good enough and look the part (The Prussian Dragoons for example), and even have fun metal banners that have a nice toy soldier appeal.
I did recently graft some Minifigs Cuirassier heads onto four Del Prado Cuirassier figures with really nice results (2 flag bearers and 2 troopers charging with outstretched swords). The final figures look truly impressive charging on those larger Del Prado horses, metal flags (with decals) flying, and more pronounced horsehair plumes.

  18. I think they look great Aly! The choice of figures (including Nassauers!) was particularly clever and you/ve painted them beautifully.

The Nassauers are indeed a very useful figure.
