The War of Spanish Succession... French Ligondes Cavalry Regiment

Greetings...

I have finished one more unit for this project...

The French Ligondez Cavalry Regiment...

This is another unit that I bought on EBay... I have a few more in the sprucing up pile... I only had to add the standard bearer.

These guys didn't need a lot of work... I repainted the faces and cleaned up the white a bit... then gave them a wash of Aly's Brown Liquid.
Everything was given a highlight... once varnished and the leatherwork was glossed.

I must admit that the main reason that I picked this unit was the 'pale crimson' (pink) standard.

I will be posting a few more spruced up units... and then a unit of Bavarian Infantry I think.

The miniatures are Front Rank...

 Bases from Warbases...

And last but not least Flags are from Maverick Models...

All the best   Aly

  2. Super unit there, as always, Aly. I am so tempted to give the WSS in the Peninsula a go next year. I really like the Casting Room Miniatures range.

    1. Thank you David...
The war in Spain is an interesting subject... lots of pretty uniforms... and not dominated by Marlborough’s war machine... and genius.
I would recommend ‘Marlborough’s other Army’ by Nicholas Dorrel.

The only company I can think of that actually makes Spanish figures is Ebor Miniatures... they are sculpted by Paul Hicks so worth a look.

      All the best. Aly

  3. A very fine job of refurbishment, Aly! Are these Front Rank cavalry?

Yes they are Front Rank cavalry... I am going to try and stick to Front Rank for the whole of the project.

  4. They look beautiful Aly. The job of refurbing these was obviously well worthwhile, did you rebase them as well?

Yes I did rebased them... it’s one sure way of tying different painting styles into one collection.

  6. They are very nice Aly - maybe with the next eBay unit you could do a "before" and "after" photo, so we can see what difference your tidy up makes?

I have a French unit in the sprucing pile that would make for a good before and after...
My one worry about putting it ‘under the lens’ is that I will go to far and therefore defeat the object of the exercise... :-0

    1. Hi Steve...
Here is a link to the basing tutorial I did last year...
This is still how I do my bases... hopefully it will be of some help.

All the best. And thank you. Aly

  11. Aly's Brown Liquid sounds miraculous... does it come in pints? Whatever it is it obviously works wonders!

    1. Hi Rick
It does work wonders... and comes it whatever quantity you desire...

The recipe is on the right hand side below ‘my blog list’

If you change the mix a little... you will have Rick’s Brown Liquid... a similar but slightly inferior product... ;-)

All the best old chap. Aly
