Work, Social life and more social life have been getting in the way... I know boo! hoo! poor me...
So here is something I painted earlier...
The Rifles...
First up The 95th Rifles (The Prince Consort's Own)...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifle_Brigade_(The_Prince_Consort%27s_Own)
And now The 60th The Kings Royal Rifle Corps....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King%27s_Royal_Rifle_Corps
This was another of my early colour tests...
I think that they might be a bit on the dark side... but I can live with that... In fact I have grow rather fond of it....
For the green I used...
Citadel... Caliban Green Spray with a wash of Athonian Camoshade plus a little black...
I have painted these as detachments rather than whole battalions as I believe that is how they were deployed.
The bases were as always from Warbases...

All the best Aly
Very nicely done. Black on green is a good look, I think, especially when there's a bit of braid here and there and some buttons for contrast.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ed...
DeleteThey have very workman like uniforms... although I do prefer the 60th with their red facings...
All the best. Aly
Very green and slimey indeed.
ReplyDeleteShiny slime no less...

Shiny. Woz the spell checka 'onest Guv.
DeleteI believe you... honest.... ;-)
DeleteLovely troops, Aly! Do you suppose the gloss coat makes the figures appear darker than they actually are?
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan...
DeleteYes the varnish does ‘intensify ‘ the colours somewhat... the next dark greens will be a little lighter to compensate.
All the best. Aly
Nah Aly - they are not too dark - Rifle Green IS just about black! Very....SHINY too....not really my thing but I know you love this style!
ReplyDeleteYou are of course correct Keith...
DeleteI still think a slightly lighter shade would have helped the belts stand out more...
I won’t be changing them though.... ;-)
All the best. Aly
Great looking troops Aly. I always feel a touch of sadness when, after applying Humbrol gloss varnish as a protecting coat first, then apply Dulcote over the top! The gloss does look soooooo Good!
ReplyDeleteThank you Carlo...
DeleteSave time and money... stay shiny... ;-)
All the best. Aly
Very smart in a rather dark and business-like way, Aly!
ReplyDeleteThank you WM...
DeleteAll the best. Aly.
Not easy colors, and you've done a great job on those ones Aly!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil...

Great bunch of rifles Aly. I agree with Jonathan, I think the gloss makes the difference by accentuating strong tones and intensifying the darker ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark...
DeleteThe varnish definitely deepens the colours... having said that they do look darker in the photos...
All the best. Aly.
Gosh! Must be about 50 years since they came out of the casting frame. And still looking good.
ReplyDeleteI don’t know how old things have to be to be called an antique... but they are certainly on their way...
DeleteI like to think of them as being venerable... :-)
All the best. Aly
Lovely - very nice job. Once again, as always, when I see S-Range Minifigs painted up beautifully I ponder why they decided to replace them with the later square-ass figures. Still - to each his own. Beauty is in the eye of the bank manager.
ReplyDeleteThey are very smart - the green looks great to me.
Thank you Tony...
DeleteSome of the newer Minifigs don’t look to bad...
I may add a unit or two just for the sake of completeness.
All the best. Aly
Beautiful work...a labour of love, the green looks right to me🙂
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt...

Looks like your antique painting skills are hanging on.
ReplyDeleteWell done Aly.
Thank you Jim...
ReplyDeleteA near antique painting venerable near antiques in a vintage style...
All the best. Aly
Lovely dark greens! Shiny, shiny!

Thank You Iain...
