Some Walls and a Field...

Greetings...

While setting up the table to have another virtual game with Mharaid I decided I needed some more walls... which lead me to make a field as well...

These are the walls I wanted to use...

They are a set made by Italeri...
They are quite nice if a bit on the fussy side as far as assembly is concerned... There is a lot of bits and pieces...

For the base of the field I used a 3mm cake board cut to size... This one came from our local pound shop... I actually bought all they had.... I know I will find a use for them...

The walls have been stuck together and gaps have been filled with putty...
The cake board has had its shiny surface removed and abused and the walls attached along with an offcut of board to give a bit of shape to the field.

I added texture and undercoated the walls and the field with grey primer.... Then realised that I had forgotten to add a few rocks... Sigh!

Everything was painted and highlighted...
I used sample pots from various brands of emulsion...And gave the walls a wash of Aly's Brown Liquid.

The field was finished using various kinds of flock and grass matting... again from a mixture of sources.
I also added a bit of additional colour to some of the stones in the walls.

Some views of the walls and field on the table...

I enjoyed making these... It was a nice change from painting miniatures...
I also have enough walls to make another couple of fields... and more than enough cake bases.

All the best   Aly

  1. Nice construction project! For me, terrain always seems to take second place to painting figures.

    1. Thank you Jonathan...
I really enjoy making terrain... I put all that effort into my toys... so why not the fields they fight on...
With the size of your table it must be a daunting prospect 😁

  2. Truest sign of old school - always looking around then buying things that 'might' be useful for something...

  3. Lovely stuff Aly....fit well with your other terrain. I have a set of the walls but they are not stuck down so I can use them flexibly in different positions.

I think I have enough bits left... I had a couple of sets... to do some more separate walls and another couple of fields...

  7. As real estate goes that is a more than desirable acquisition for your table.

  8. Nice work Aly, I saw this set but thought that at 1/72 they may be a bit small, but, I think they look fine now I saw yours.

I don’t mind slightly under scale buildings and terrain pieces...

  9. Very nice, I like the idea of using a cake board to get the 3mm material.

  10. Beautiful work on this scenery Aly - good enough to rival our friend Mr Strachan, if I dare make such a comparison!

By the time I finished this one Mark would have built a county sized field system... And a brick works for the walls.... 😂

  11. Looks very nice Aly. I have to try this as they are relatively cheap ones. I was a bit concerned with the scale, but it seems it works!
Myself I can recommend very nice resin drystone walls from Fenris Games.

    Best wishes,
    Jan

  12. I had that wall set and swear it came from Bolt Action. I sold it with all of my 28mm Bolt Action miniatures to facilitate the purchase of the Tennant Collection. Now I am regretting including the walls in that sale!

    1. Hi David...
Warlord used to sell them... rebranded and repacked for Bolt Action...
I bet you could pick them up on eBay....
