The War of 1812… U.S. Light Dragoons.

Greetings…

A new year and a new addition to the War of 1812 collection…

The U.S. Light Dragoons…

This is another American unit that I really like… A relatively simple uniform to paint but with all the ‘blind braid’ and buttons it is still very interesting…

You can find a bit of history here…

Once again these guys were a joy to paint… Even the saddlery was less painful than most… I do like six figure cavalry unit 😁.

The Tunics and Valise are… Citadel… Kantor Blue.

The Horse Blanket is… Citadel… Administratum Grey.

The White bites are… Citadel… Pallid Wych Flesh.

The Belts are… Citadel… Corax White.

The Plumes are… Citadel Kantor Blue plus… Foundry Sky Blue Light 21C.

The Horses were given a base of … Citadel… Mournfang Brown… Then given various washes of Browns from the Citadel Contrast Range.

As always everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then highlighted with the original colours… the belts were then worked up to pure white.

The figures are from Knuckleduster…

The paints are Wargames Foundry and Citadel...

The bases are as always...

I have more War of 1812 in the pipeline…But there maybe a shiny interlude next.

All the best   Aly.

Good to see your spirits were not dampened by the Boxing Day loss.

  2. An iconic American unit Aly and as always, your paint job has done them proud. Six figure cavalry units sound like a great idea to me! Mine have ten, as I used Old Glory figures, and their cavalry come in bags of ten

Most of the Lion Rampant variants use six figure cavalry units… but of course if your toys come in bags of ten it would be silly not to use them all.

  3. A lovely addition to the US forces! You won't need much more cavalry either, one of the joys of the War of 1812-15!

Yes it was very much an infantrymans war… although 5hat won’t stop me adding a few pretty mounted militia units.

  5. These dragoons are very martial and spectacular. If we're not mistaken, apart from the officer, the other soldiers are in only two poses. Do you do something to differentiate them, or is it not too much of a problem for you?

Yes there are only a couple of poses… I don’t differentiate between them , they are all the same as far as the rules are concerned… and I use counters to mark casualties…

  7. Nicely done! There are some great volunteer and militia cavalry uniforms but naturally it was the regulars who saw most service so its good that their uniforms are pret...errrr I mean handsome.

I shall no doubt add some of the more handsome looking volunteer and militia units to the collection as well… it would be rude not to.

  8. Aly, Those are quite striking! Enough so that I might even have to learn a bit more about the history of my own country instead of these silly European conflicts with Napoleon...

I’m not allowing myself to buy anymore until I finish what I’ve already got(for this war of course)…which should give me enough for a game.
