Greetings…
Some of you may remember my first shot at this unit…
https://alystoysoldiers.blogspot.com/2020/08/shiny-napoleonics-neuchatel
These chaps are now living on the other side of the world… In the care of Wellington Man in New Zealand…
If you would like to see their somewhat unfortunate introduction to their new commander I would suggest that you have a look here
https://thehintonspieler.blogspot.com/2021/11/newcastle-united.html
Here are a couple of pictures of these tragic events to whet your appetite…
As Berthier studies his notes he realises he may need some assistance with these new recruits.
Berthier has employed the services of a new and enthusiastic personal trainer…The young Malchanceux Bourde… Chosen because of his relationship to the great General Malchanceux… Whose autobiography “My Glory My Emperor “ is much in favour with Berthier and France.
( Unfortunately modern historians will discover that Malchanceux’s account of his career and the truth are even more distant than the relationship between the General and Bourde )…
“Attention my brave men”
“Form a column “
“Form a line”
“Now Charge! to glory and certain death”
“Stop!… We must throw ourselves onto the blades of our Emperors enemies”
“Sigh!”
Here they are in all their “glory”…
These were a lot of fun to paint… Even second time around.
I’m glad I made the effort… They now fit in well with the rest of my collection.
The Tunics are… Foundry… Ochre 4B.
The Facings are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet.
The Breeches are… Citadel… Pallid Wych Flesh.
The Pack and Musket are… Citadel… Mournfang Brown.
The Belts are… Citadel… Corax White.
Everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and highlighted with the original colours. The Belts were also highlighted up to a pure White.
The paints are Wargames Foundry and Citadel...

All the best. Aly
Nice work Aly and an amusing story...I shall pop over to the Wellington Man blog and get the full SP!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith…
DeleteI just followed Wellington Mans lead…
All the best. Aly
Your “New” Neufchâtel battalion looks better than the first. I hope these canaries fight better than their predecessors.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Thank you Jonathan…
DeleteIt will probably be me who is going to command them… so they will no doubt run away… prettily.
All the best. Aly
Of course Berthier is really unlucky ... that it was the memory of these embarrassing events that made him fall from the third floor in 1815???
ReplyDeleteWe knew that the Napoleonic armies had gone very far, but we did not know they had even reached New Zealand (it must be thanks to the painter...).
However, even the new battalion is as bright and shiny as the previous one (and even more), so Napoleon will not be short of men even on the old continent!
Yes he died in mysterious circumstances…
DeleteMaybe his wife wanted to paint the bedroom yellow and that just pushed him over the edge… and out the window.
The Napoleonic armies have indeed traveled far and wide… and are getting stronger and prettier by the day…
Looking at what I still have to paint Napoleon’s army will continue to grow for some time yet.
All the best. Aly
Shiny and superb, inspired presentation Aly!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteWellington Man had the inspiration… I just added the next chapter.
All the best. Aly
Loved the pictures and the unit, very amusing. I really « get » the naive shiny look now. They look better than they would mat in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThank you JBM…
DeleteI think that sometimes a toy soldier should look like a toy soldier…
All the best. Aly
Dear Aly, these are such beautiful figures, exquisite and shiny! I just wanted to say thank you because you have inspired me to try to make two small armies for A gentleman’s war type game with your lovely soldiers from Spencer Smith Miniatures. Thank you and all the best Quinn
ReplyDeleteThank you Quinn…
DeleteI’m glad you like them…
A Gentleman’s War is a lot of fun… I haven’t played it for a while so I must get the toys out again….
You don’t need huge amounts of figures to have a decent game.
All the best. Aly
A nice addition to the collection and quite an amusing storyline too.
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteWellington Man did the first part so well that I was inspired to add to it..
Goodness knows what will happen when they eventually get on the table.
All the best. Aly.
Very, very nice. Now will you retain these or will these also become mercenaries to go fight for another commander in some far flung field
ReplyDeleteThank you Graham…
DeleteThese one are definitely staying with me…
All the best. Aly
For some reason I like the Neufchatel Regiment, and you do it so well!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rob…
DeleteThe yellow uniforms and red facings make for a very unique French unit…
All the best. Aly
New, new and shiny too, splendid.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil..
DeleteIt looked like you were going to burst into song there…
All the best. Aly
"Mighty purdy but kin they fight?" "....ahhhummnnnn...."
ReplyDeleteThank you Ross…
DeleteProbably not if I command them…
All the best. Aly
How can you expect different if you insist on painting them yellow?
ReplyDeleteHmmm…do you think the yellow affects their bravery.
DeleteIt’s a good job they don’t have a white flag then…
All the best. Aly
Oh Man, Mathew is going to have a fit when he sees these. He is already tottering on the edge of adding the S series. This might just push him over. Brilliant work Aly!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteIt’s all his fault for doing such an entertaining post first…
I’m just following his lead…
I’d love to see Matthew paint S Range Minifigs.
All the best. Aly
Well, they look splendid "marching up and down the square"--a bit of zig zag here and there only adds to the effect.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ed…
DeleteIt’s the running away that may cause problems 😁
All the best. Aly
*Laughter^.
ReplyDeleteThe Canaries are still on form, I see!
I didn't think it was possible, but you've painted an even more beautiful second Neuchatel Battalion. I'll have to follow your lead and get your first battalion a proper colonel - although he'll have to be a Scruby, naturally....
I hope you're planning a future post where we can all get a closer look at all those gorgeous-looking staff officers. The Empereur in particular is looking very dashing.
All the very best from far-flung NZ.
WM
Thank you very much Matthew…
DeleteThey are one of my favourite units… I have a 54mm figure and this battalion…
I am sure I have room for more… I wonder if anyone does a Flat?…
I look forward to seeing your colonel…
I intend to do a post with all my new command and staff types soon… they were a lot of fun to paint and I am looking forward to showing them off..
All the best. Aly
A very well travelled unit Aly!
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed Mark…
DeleteI hope you have some in your collection…
If not… at the speed you paint you will have some in a few days 😁
All the best. Aly
Great looking unit Aly and hopefully they will come back under control 👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…
DeleteMe… in control of an infantry battalion 😂
Maybe I will get lucky…
All the best. Aly
A splendid looking return to this unit, they are equally as good as the first one,I'm sure we will expect great things of them!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain…
DeleteI am hoping it will be glory and not death 😁
All the best. Aly
Loved that little tale - reminded me of trumpton - in hiviz yellow.
ReplyDeleteThank you Stuart…
DeleteThat reminds me that I must build and paint my windmill…😁
All the best. Aly
Excellent figures Aly. I've always loved this unit, I mean who wouldn't love a French unit painted yellow.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ray…
DeleteThey are indeed one of the prettiest French units…
All the best. Aly
Gorgeous 'canaries' Aly.
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
Thank you James…
