The Wild Geese Wargamers weekend 2022.

Greetings…

Just over a week ago I had the pleasure of returning to Kenilworth in Warwickshire and joining a fine group of fellows for a weekend of mainly 18th century warfare, fine food and a moderate amount/lashings of booze.

Our last get together was in 2019…Which now seems like a whole world ago.

The games on offer this year were…


The Battle of Prague with Prince August home cast figures from Steve Metheringham…


Hougoumont from Tony Dillon…


Mollwitz using plastic Spencer Smith Miniatures from Willz Harley…


The Battle of Reichenberg from Gary Philips…


Wellington in India from Martin Gane…

I played in three games over the weekend and even managed to be on the winning side in one…

Here are some images of my adventures… suitably randomised by Blogger.

My first game…Prague.





















I took command of the cavalry…and after many glorious charges and counter charges… I came second.

Next up…Mollwitz












I took command of the Infantry this time…
And after many volleys and counter volleys… yup!…. That will be another second place…

And last but by no means least…Wellington in India.










I had command of the left flank…
And after volleys, counter volleys, charges, counter charges and even rocket fire… I was quite by surprise on the winning side… Hurrah!

I also won a well deserved trophy… 😁.


A truly splendid weekend in the company of splendid fellows…
A big thank you to everyone who made this happen…

I am already looking forward to next year…

I would also like to take the opportunity to mention the charity Blesma which was set up after WW1 to support Limbless Veterans…
These fine people were also having an AGM/Conference at the same Hotel and a number of the attendees popped in to look at our endeavours…

    Aly, your photos and the event is one riot of colour. It looked like a delightful set of games and I take it the Unluckiest General is Montcalm? Really great stuff.

    A Classic looking event or at least some of the games looked like classic wargames and the whole thing reads like an event where much enjoyment was had by many, regardless of fortune's fickle fingers.

    A weekend that appears to have been really intense and fun: congratulations to the unluckiest general! What scale were the miniatures? What rules did you play with?

      It was indeed a lot of fun…
      The miniatures were in various sizes 28mm, 30mm and 40mm.
      There was also a mixture of rules…
      Black Powder, Piquet, Sepoys and Soldiers and a couple of home grown sets…

    Hello there Aly,

    There is some serious ‘old school’ porn there! Lovely looking stuff and I have to say that I have a soft spot for well painted Spencer Smiths. The Prince August stuff looked lovely and as for India!

    It looked to be heaps of fun and thanks for sharing all the pictures.

    Well done Aly, by your standards, a 33% win rate is pretty impressive! I am a bit disappointed to see no images of Wellington in India, or indeed, his troops...just lots of Indians...from which, I deduce, the Indians won the game!

      Yes a 33% win rate is definitely an improvement…
      You can actually make Wellingtons troops out in the back ground… unfortunately the pictures I took of them were all a bit out of focus… possibly because of their rapid advance 😁.
      Yes the Indians won…

    Looks to me that you actually had a winning weekend all around (game results notwithstanding). Just looking at the tables and figs would almost suffice (goes one better than model trains that we can actually play with the stuff).

    I love the look of the Prague game - the miniatures are so elegant and the table is so well-ordered. Reminds me of a Zen rock garden.

    What a splendid looking group of games, if I were forced to choose one it would be Wellington in India, simply because I've never gamed it and it caught my eye. The flats also look the part, I remember being impressed by a game at the York show many years ago using flats. Finally, Congratulations on the trophy!
