Greetings…
Life, work and the world seem to be trying to stop me painting toys so I thought I would start posting about my recent book purchases….
These are a couple of lovely books by Andre Jouineau and Jean-Marie Mongin…
L’ Infanterie de Ligne 1776-1810 and 1814-1845…
I would highly recommend them…
And now for something shiny…
This is a nice little Hinchliffe Napoleonic French Officer…
A classic look and a joy to paint…
The pictures were taken with my new Phone Camera … which I am still getting used to… the focal depth is different from my old one but the colour quality is loads better…
Hopefully I will get a bit more practice when I get the chance to paint more toys…
All the best. Aly.
I have a few of the books in this series - absolutely brilliant detail. I am very impressed with the shiny Hinchliffe too!
ReplyDeleteThank you…The shiny was a real joy to paint…
DeleteThis is certainly a series I will buy more of…
All the best. Aly
Good looking books and another lovely shiny. As to painting the underclothes I will leave that to you Aly 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt…
DeleteDon’t you know that the state of a soldiers underkrackers reflects the state of the Army… 😂
All the best. Aly
Two very good additions to your wargaming library, Aly. Your French officer is a classic look, for sure.
ReplyDeleteThank you … they classic look is what I want 😁.
DeleteThey are splendid books … I’m sure I will neeeed more from the series…😁
All the best. Aly
I have a few of the Andre Jouineau books too…fabulous. Great figure too.
ReplyDeleteVery useful books…
DeleteThank you…
All the best. Aly
The books look great Aly - but my first question is - what happened between 1811 - 1813??! Is there another book in the series? (Sorry, its just the way my brain works....)
ReplyDeleteYes I noticed that… but the content of the second book does cover 1814 and earlier…
DeleteThere are lots of other books but not a part three for the infantry.
All the best. Aly
Books? Can't have enough of them! Mind, where did 1810-1814 go? Nice shiny chappie too by the by.
ReplyDeleteI have plenty more books to show… I think I may need an extra room in the house…😳
DeleteYou are not the only one to notice the discrepancy in dates…
All the best. Aly
A splendid looking officer and books.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
He is a wee gem! I'm a bit disheartened by the books though - they seem to suggest that the red collars of the fusiliers continued to be piped with white after 1812, whereas I'd finally convinced myself that this changed to (a much less attractive) blue! I'm all a tither.
ReplyDeleteFear not Matthew…
DeleteIt would appear that some units continued with the white piping while others followed the official line…
Even by Waterloo there was still a lot of ‘free interpretation’ amongst the regiments…
All the best. Aly
Nice books. All you could wish for detail.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed… all a geek needs..😁
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Wonderful acquisitions Aly. That Hinchcliffe figure is tremendous.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carlo…
DeleteYes they are very nice books… there are many more in the range to tempt the unwary… or me 😁
All the best. Aly
Beautiful plates from Jouineau's books! We had seen some of them on the web and we had been inspired by them for some details of the uniforms of Napoleonic soldiers, but we did not know which books they belonged to.
ReplyDeleteYour shiny officer is also very charming (and well taken up by the new phone camera): he only needs a troop to lead... ;)
They are indeed lovely plates and books…
DeleteThank you… yes the officer does need someone to command.
All the best. Aly
The Joineau-Mongin books certainly are inspirational! I used to have their series on chasseurs a cheval (which I recommend highly: but then again, you can't really go wrong with any of them). Wonderful treatment of the grand old Hinchcliffe officer figure. Whereas these types of figs normally work best in bunches, this fellow can stand alone in his shiny splendor!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ed… I am pleased the way the officer came out…
DeleteThe one problem with the books is there is a wallet emptying quantity of them out there…😁
All the best. Aly
I do like the shiny look on these time honoured veterans. I'm also tempted to try shiny look with a simple paint job on the modern plastics. Books, what can I say that hasn't already been said, splendid additions, can never have too many books.
ReplyDeleteHi Meic..
DeleteI think ‘shiny’ works on a lot of toys…
I haven’t actually changed my painting style.. the shiny stuff just has a gloss varnish…
Give it a go…. You know you want to 😈…
Yup!….Can you ever have enough books ?
NO…
All the best. Aly
Splendid illustrations and figure Aly, I do like this French officer!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteThe figure was a real joy to paint…
All the best. Aly
Nice looking books and a wonderfully painted figure Ally. That officer figure was one of the first metal figures I ever painted.
ReplyDeleteWillz.
Hey Willz…
DeleteI’m glad I took you down memory lane…
The books are splendid…
All the best. Aly
Lovely looking figure and the books are really tempting, I've been looking at the one on the Imperial guard, possibly too nice?!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Iain…
ReplyDeleteThere is no such thing as a book that is too nice 😂
All the best. Aly
