FromMy Side of the Table… Somewhere in Spain

Greetings…

Last week I went over to Alan Perry’s house for a game of toy soldiers…

Alan was play testing Jervis Johnson’s forthcoming Valour and Fortitude rules…

Alan and Steve played the French and their Allies while David,Michael and myself played the Anglo-Portuguese and Spanish.

Because of work commitments I arrived later than the others and came on the table as reinforcements.

Here are some images pre-reinforcements…

The reinforcements arrive…

Just look at that lovely Spanish cavalry…Led by the dashing Brigadier Desafortunada…
They are just begging to charge something… Hurrah!

The rest of the battle…

A bit of Light Cavalry action… Which I of course lost…. Gloriously.

Desafortunada… Cavalry…. A Grand Battery… Hmmmmm!
Yes of course he went for it…Encouraged by everyone….  Even my own side.

In the end the didn’t get as far as the guns because we won the day… Hurrah! (I’m not sure how much of a contribution that I actually made to the victory but I am still going to take the win).

A splendid game in splendid company which managed to use most of the table throughout the battle… Many thanks to Alan.

You can find a bit more on the game here…

All the best.  Aly.

    1. Alan was working of an early-ish draft and I basically just let him tell me what I could and couldn’t do…
The game felt reasonably fast and was satisfyingly bloody…
I am looking forward to try it again.

  9. As expected a most impressive layout. The Peninsular war I always feel is the best Napoleonic campaign to refight and being in command of the Spanish is always good. No one expects anything from them so any success is most rewarding

    1. Classic Alan Perry…
It’s certainly a nice colourful part of the Napoleonic Wars… mind you, you could say that about any part of the Wars…
“No one expects anything from them so any success is most rewarding “…. I think you have just perfectly described my dice throwing 😂.

  11. Wonderful game table and troops - a feast for the eyes!
Congratulations on your victory but ... this unfortunately ruins your career as the most unlucky general in history! Maybe you will need to return the trophy you've recently earned? : D

  13. Those dragoons! What a glorious and gorgeous unit to command. They look completely unblooded however, did they just scare the French into submission?
