Painting desk update… and yet another book.

Greetings…

As it’s been a couple of months I thought I would let you see the state of my shiny new desk.

Before

Now
I think the desk is bedding in nicely and managing to get creatively cluttered…

I also saw this book in Waterstones and bought it on the title alone… it looks interesting.

All the best.  Aly

  1. Not sure what was going on in that first picture but the second one was much more like it. We might have to stage a collective intervention on the state of that brush cleaning “water” mind you. Shocking sir!

    1. Yes the brush water is certainly looking a bit swampy…

  2. Are you sure the desk is still there under all that mess😉? I couldn't work with so much clutter myself I must confess, a bit OCD I fear.

  3. Clutter is good, or so I gather from the internet. Personally, need a new computer desk myself - current one is 'modern' in the sense it's probably 20 years old and certainly falling apart. Now, my painting desk... about 60 years old (birthday present from my grandparents when I was a lot younger) and still going strong.

    1. Does the 60 year old desk have 60 years worth of clutter Rob?

    2. It probably would if I had any say in the matter. However, that is the corner where the Christmas tree goes so I have to clear the area every year :(

    3. An annual clear up sounds like something I should try and do…
You never know what you might find 😁

  4. Yes the desk definitely looks better now, although still very tidy and clean! The book sounds very interesting!

The book title certainly caught my attention… hopefully the content will be as interesting as it sounds.

  5. Haha... We are all the same. I've done the same type of cleaning of the workbench some time ago, with a resolution of keeping it in a nice condition. It now looks worse than before cleaning...

    Best wishes,

    1. Very true Jan…
As soon as you tidy something away you need to get it back out…
Eventually it starts to look like a badly planned archeological dig.

  6. It's always interesting to see someone else's workbench: yes, we too would say that the disorder (or alternative order) that reigns on the table is the mirror of the owner's creativity...
The book, judging by the title, appears a bit catastrophic: could you list the sackings that are covered in it?

    1. Yes my/ our desks clearly reflect our creativity…
The sackings are… Gauls,Goths,More Goths,Normans, Spanish, French and Nazis.
It certainly appears to be a popular sacking destination.

  7. Very tidy painting table. I am ashamed to share a photo of the chaotic surface on which I paint.

When I have trouble viewing the monitor I will know it’s time for a tidy…

Well it is certainly an eye catching title that's for sure.

The title could easily be about our current government .

  10. You had me worried there Aly, I thought the "before" picture was how your desk always looked! Mine has recently had a bit if a tidy up and still looks messier than your second image, but I am somewhat reassured by the fact the second picture is reasonably cluttered looking! The book does look interesting.

    1. I find the vast emptiness of an uncluttered desk quite intimidating… it feels cosier when there is only six inches of clear space 😂.
It’s an interesting approach to the history of a city…

  13. I always love seeing other Wargamers work areas Aly as it shows me how deeply messy I can be without a regular cleanup. I shudder to think what people would think if I was as candid as yourself. I’m going upstairs on the weekend to sort it all out inspired by yourself.

I want to get a few more units done/started before I bring the ‘classifieds’ out of hiding…

  15. Nicely cluttered Aly. That before picture is utterly frightening! I don't mind clutter, but I have this goal of working on one project at a time, so far unattained, but one needs to have a dream...

I’ve never managed to work on just one thing at a time… I’ve given up trying.😁
