ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

The War of 1812… A solo game.

Greetings…

I realised that I hadn’t actually had a game with my War of 1812 collection…

I used Rebels and Patriots…Which I hadn’t yet played either.

The rules work really well… If you have played Lion Rampant then there are no terrible surprises to be had…

There was no real scenario I just put the toys on the table and rolled some dice…

It would appear that playing solo doesn’t improve my position with the dice gods.

Twelve dice… needing 5’s and 6’s…sigh!

Here are a few pictures from the game… suitably randomised by Blogger.

The game was fun and easy to play…The Americans won the day.

I enjoyed it so much I am going to have another go and then get some chums round and host a good old fashioned face to face session.

All the best.  Aly

  3. A very handsome looking table Aly and the Americans win another War of 1812 scenario! I am glad your lovely 1812 figures finally got an outing though and makes me think, it's about time I did another solo game - I have plenty of GNW Russians now for the min 4Play scenarios - maybe I will try one of them this wek.....

It was a fairly close game which is what you would want from any set of rules…
Oh! Do get your GNW toys out on the table…

  4. R&P I think is my favourite set of the 'Rampant' engine, but then I am biased as I was actively involved in the playtesting!

  6. Wow, some serious eye candy there matey. Might give rebels and patriots a go myself if it’s not radically different to the others in the series - makes it easier on the old brain.

  7. It's a 'good thing' when the game is worth the painting.

  13. Well done, it's always good when a painting project reaches the tabletop and delivers an enjoyable game.
As for your dice, perhaps stick to the conventional dotted pattern? I'm not keen on dice where other symbols are used; sometimes they indicate a one and sometimes a six (the latter seems more common at the club) - at first I thought your skulls were sixes - but then I saw the six and absence of ones... being a bit slow today.

I agree with you about fussy dice… but they were the only red and blue dice I had…

  15. Very nice looking game Aly! I have quite bit of AWI figures in my pile of shame. Maybe I should consider basing them for Rebels & Patriots as I don't think I have enough determination to do this period on a Black Powder scale.

    Best wishes,
    Jan

It’s a nice way of getting into a period without the madness of painting big units….
