ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Shiny Napoleonics… Prussian Command.

Greetings…

More Shiny and this time it’s a couple of command types…

Both are conversions and are also (mostly) Hinchliffe…

This first one is a converted Blucher figure… A simple head swap… The head came from another Hinchliffe figure… A French officer on foot…
The horse is a relatively early model as it was cast without any reins … I made mine from flattened fuse wire…

Next up…

A Prussian Fieldjager acting as a messenger…
This is the body of the French officer that donated the head to Blucher ( It’s all getting a bit Frankensteinian here).
The horse is an early Minifigs with saddlery add in Greenstuff.
These were a lot of fun…

Everything was the given a wash of Aly’s Brown Liquid… Then highlighted with the original colours… some of the lighter colours were given an extra highlight…

‘Bluchers’ Coat is… Citadel… Administratum Grey.
The Collar is… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet.

The Fieldjagers Coat is… Foundry… Forest Green Shade 26B
The Trousers are… Ak Interactive… English Grey AK11020.

  2. Always was very taken by the green jacketed Prussian couriers. Included several of them in my collection even though I haven't figured out a use for them in a game (other than looking smart, which I guess qualifies, come you think of it)

    1. I would say that ‘looking smart’ is more than enough reason to having a few Prussian couriers 😁

  3. Lovely work on both figures, they are both really nice. The messenger is a particularly nice conversion, very nice additions to your "shiny" collection.

  5. LOL - I just mentioned both "shiny" and "Hinchcliffe" in my comment on Norms blog, a few minutes ago Aly!
I actually own an original Hinchcliffe Wellington - not sure where he is though - bought in a pack with two other mounted officers, plus Napoleon and two other Frenchies, from the estimable Hanleys in London, circa 1976!

    1. Shiny and Hinchliffe certainly go together well…
I think Hinchliffe were quite early at getting into selling ‘packs’ of figures in the more upmarket toy shops… I think they branded a lot of them under the Calder Craft label.

      All the best. Aly

  6. These are excellent and of course unique. Congratulations on your fine work. I really like these. The reins, saddlery and the message bag are nice touches. I've never risked a head swap in my life but yours have blended well. It reminds me of that scene in the film The Labyrinth where they throw their heads around.

Head swaps are a nice easy way of getting some variety in units…
I will have to try the Labyrinth throwing technique and see what I get 🤣…

  7. Aly, nice bit of Frankensteining! ☺
It may be me but he looks more Wellington than Blucher? Must be conditioned by all those pictures of him in a cap rather than a bicorne.
Perhaps you should have an elephant based with him.......☺

Hurrah…If he doesn’t look like Blucher then I have succeeded … I have at least three more cap wearing Bluchers in the lead Alp so there may need to be a few more decapitations .
      Hmmm… Bluchers Elephant… 😳

  8. A really weird déjà vu moment? But a lovely pair of figures, I love doing conversions (but not for whole units) it somehow makes the figure more special.

Ah! That will be an age thing…
Or maybe all those sneaky previews you’ve had 😁…
Conversions are indeed a lot of fun … the do add a lot of personality to your army/collection…

  10. Your conversion work is very effective. It is fun to create something unique for your collection. Prussian forces need the courier / feldjager castings, well done!

  11. The reins on that command horse! That really takes this fellow out of the ballpark and a homerun. Lovely! He pairs so well with the more colourful Feldjager as well. All around great work!

  15. "IT - COULD - WORK!": your little Frankensyein-style surgery appears perfectly successful. The messenger is a distinctive character and we like the pose as he leads the horse by the reins while holding the bag with the dispatches. On the gaming table can he be specifically played as a messenger, or as a generic mounted soldier?

    1. Thank you..
      “It lives” 😁
The messenger will … depending on what rules I use or the scenario of the game … be used as the messenger he is..
Other than that he will be a decorative addition to the command group…
He would never accept being treated as a generic mounted soldier
      😁
