Greetings…
The Butterfly has fluttered on to a little project I started about a year ago…
Pyrrhus of Epirus…

This time we have a unit of Oscan/Samnite Infantry…
This is a very versatile unit, and can be found in most armies of the period and not just those of Pyrrhus.
As Pyrrhus fought Rome, Carthage and Hellenistic Greece I intend to eventually expand to cover all their forces…
The figures are Crusader Miniatures… Available from North Star…

The Tunics are… Warpaints… Dragon Red and Tidal Blue.
Citadel… Pallid Wych Flesh.
With contrasting edging…
The Shields are also… Warpaints… Dragon Red and Tidal Blue.
With a Foundry… Buff Leather 7B… Edging.
Everything was given a wash of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then re- highlighted with the original colours.
The paints are Citadel,Warpaints and Foundry…

The Bases are as always Warbases…
I am very pleased with this colourful little unit…There will certainly be more.
I am trying to clear a backlog of started and half finished units so the Butterfly will be getting a lot of exercise 🦋🦋🦋.
All the best. Aly

These really are very nice indeed Aly - looking forward to seeing what comes out of the butterflies painting desk!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith…
DeleteI am also looking forward to se what the butterfly brings…
The builders are back and making dust again…so almost everything is back to hiding in boxes…
All the best. Aly
Lovely work Aly, cracking job on them, nice figures as well, Crusader have some great ranges.
ReplyDeleteThank you Donnie…
DeleteYes the Crusader figures are indeed very nice… I find most of what they do tempting.
All the best. Aly
Nice unit there Aly. I'm sure the other 'nearly finished' units will be just as splendid after completion!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteI am hoping that when I retire I will be able to come close to your output… (The 1st of May by the way 😁)
All the best. Aly
What a colourful unit. Nice to see some metal rather than plastic being painted. Top job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jim…
DeleteI don’t mind plastic… but metals are my favourite.
All the best. Aly
Great work Aly - all power to the butterfly!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ian…

Lovely. Wonder what the feathers were from? Ostrich?
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark…
DeleteI don’t think the feathers were Ostrich… I read somewhere that they were not always feathers… they were sometimes painted material, leather or even thin metal sheet…
There certainly must have been a lot of bald birds in the ancient world…
All the best. Aly
Superb job, young sir, as I would expect. Confess I am a total ignopotomus on this period - we know that Pyrrhic victories were not so good, but how bad was a Pyrrhic defeat?
ReplyDeleteThank you Tony…
DeleteIt is a fascinating period filled with interesting and entertaining psychopaths… 😁
If you want to see a Pyrrhic Defeat just read one of my battle reports 🙀🤣🤣…
All the best. Aly
Lovely Aly! My own butterfly is flapping - must be the time of year. Absence of comments is due to not being able to sign in on tablet - so limited on some blogs to laptop at weekends.
ReplyDeleteNeil
Thank you Neil…
DeleteIt’s definitely a butterflying time of year…
I bought some figures for projects to do when I retire… but my butterfly keeps looking at them 🤣
All the best. Aly
Lovely, I like their compact spacing, gives a nice solid block look.
ReplyDeleteThank you Norm…

DeleteThe butterfly has definitely gone wild…🦋🦋🦋

Alas, I used to have an army of painted early Romans with Etruscans and Samnites. That was a fine looking army, though not as fine as yours. Unfortunately they fell victim to the desire to raise cash for the Tennant collection. https://miniatureminions.blogspot.com/2011/12/more-romans-arrive.html
ReplyDeleteYou can always come back to a new Punic Wars project.
DeleteThe Tennant collection was a chance in a lifetime and well worth it…
All the best. Aly
Pyrrhic, a fine choice, win or lose. I look forward to seeing what your results will be.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a fine period… Pyrrhus fought some interesting and colourful forces… Rome, Carthage and Hellenistic Greeks…
DeleteMy butterfly loves it…🦋🦋🦋
All the best. Aly
Oh these are just delightful! I really like Samnites and fancy the Victrix figures but Im going to be strong and resist the urge, sigh!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain…
DeleteThe Samnites and Oscans are very pretty indeed…
As are the Victrix figures … go one you know it makes sense 😈
All the best. Aly
Superb - they look great. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you…
