From My Side of the Table… Bolt Action

Greetings…

A few weeks ago we had a little game of Bolt Action round at Matt’s  house… The idea was to have a little introduction game for a couple of the youngsters who hadn’t played it before.

Matt set up a little scenario at a crossroads involving infantry and armour…

British Infantry advance towards the Church…

A second group sneak up on the crossroads…

No enemy to be seen as yet…

Time for the armour to get involved… With a couple of brilliant misses. 🙀

At last…. A sight of the enemy…

It does seem to be a friendly little place…

Making an advance up the centre we once more become bullet magnets…

Dashing into a house…We make brilliant targets… again 😳.

My men enter the church… Only to be shot down by a hidden enemy using hand grenades and machine guns…Probably in slow motion like a scene from a Sam Peckinpah movie…

Even round here it’s a land full of bullets…

We decide it was Beer O’ Clock.

This was a fun evening as we tried out different things to show off the rules… The vague plan is to get proficient at  Bolt Action and then move onto another set of rules and do the same.

All the best.  Aly

  5. A much maligned set of rules which is great to get the younger folk into the period. You just have to dissuade them from using some of the ridiculous "special rules"😉

      We avoided “special rules” 😁

  8. Bolt Action is a fine game, just needs playing by folk who know a little of WWII tactics and capabilities. I like the idea of your vague plan.

    1. It is indeed a fine game but yes I can see how it could be played “out of character “
We have always tried to play the period and not just the “rules”

  10. That looked wonderful Aly and retelling it solely from your point of view kept us in 'suspenders' knowing only half of the story until; 'surprise'! Marvellous.
    Best wishes, James

    1. Thank you James I’m glad you enjoyed it…
I was so involved in playing they game I didn’t really get many pictures of the enemy… so the one sided report sprung from that.
It came out a lot better than I expected and certainly reflected a feeling of heading into the unknown.

  12. Good stuff, if I recall correctly you were painting up German Paratroopers and Home Guard at some stage, it would be good to see your version of an Operation Sealion game!
