Greetings...
I have now gloss varnished my colour tests...
It makes a difference... doesn't it.
I think as these are from my Shiny Toy soldiers range... it would appear that they demand to be 'SHINY!'....
I am up for this... but it will probably be next year before I get started... I have to do a bit of sculpting and casting and such...
And I want to get my WSS collection to a point of gaming...
And all the other stuff...
All the best Aly
That's the way to do it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil...
DeleteLooks like you could be right.
All the best. Aly
I'd call them toy-soldiers rather than what have evolved into wargames miniatures ... and there's nothing wrong with either. Very attractive.
ReplyDeleteThank you...
DeleteI have alway just referred to them as toy soldiers Hence the tittle of my blog.
Although it really doesn’t matter does it... as long as you are enjoying your hobby.
Each to their own as they say
All the best. Aly
Shiny happy people looking great!
ReplyDeleteThank you...
DeleteI shall be singing that all day...;-)
All the best. Aly
That coat of varnish does it for me !
ReplyDeleteThanks Tony...
DeleteIt looks like that is the way to go
All the best. Aly
Gloss is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is Mark

Lovely!
ReplyDeletePerhaps you should have a game by candlelight for extra sparkle!
Thank you Stuart...
DeleteI always light up at least one of the chandeliers for this kind of game...;-)
All the best. Aly
The gloss coat complements this style of sculpting quite nicely.
ReplyDeleteGloss definitely has the vote Jonathan
DeleteIt’s also a very forgiving finish.
All the best. Aly
Yes I vote for gloss with these it gives that certain style, they will look very splendid ranked up. I think I would be tempted to go for slightly thinner bases ?
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt...
DeleteThe bases were a couple I had at hand.. and yes I think they are a bit to thick.
I will probably go for 4mm when I get started probably on this .
All the best. Aly
Nice work Aly - gloss is not my thing and neither are reproduction 1900's "Toy Soldiers" but I know you like this style and you have made an excellent job of these examples!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith
DeleteWargaming is a broad church with many periods scales and finishes to choose from... which is what makes it such fun.
All the best. Aly
The gloss finish as hinted earlier gets my vote. Very nice. The curl on the cavalryman's helmet crest is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the enquiry about my pictures. This should work:

Shiny gets my vote too, Aly, but that is probably not very surprising. They look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you WM...
DeleteYes for some strange reason I had a good idea where you would cast your vote...
All the best. Aly
Ooh shiny! Gloss is definitely the appropriate varnish for these chaps, lovely!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
