ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Serious temptation... Shiny

Greetings...

I have now gloss varnished my colour tests...

It makes a difference... doesn't it.

I think as these are from my Shiny Toy soldiers range... it would appear that they demand to be 'SHINY!'....

I am up for this... but it will probably be next year before I get started... I have to do a bit of sculpting and casting and such...

And I want to get my WSS collection to a point of gaming...

And all the other stuff...

All the best  Aly

  2. I'd call them toy-soldiers rather than what have evolved into wargames miniatures ... and there's nothing wrong with either. Very attractive.

    1. Thank you...

I have alway just referred to them as toy soldiers Hence the tittle of my blog.
Although it really doesn’t matter does it... as long as you are enjoying your hobby.

Each to their own as they say

Perhaps you should have a game by candlelight for extra sparkle!

  6. The gloss coat complements this style of sculpting quite nicely.

    1. Gloss definitely has the vote Jonathan

It’s also a very forgiving finish.

  7. Yes I vote for gloss with these it gives that certain style, they will look very splendid ranked up. I think I would be tempted to go for slightly thinner bases ?

The bases were a couple I had at hand.. and yes I think they are a bit to thick.
I will probably go for 4mm when I get started probably on this .

  8. Nice work Aly - gloss is not my thing and neither are reproduction 1900's "Toy Soldiers" but I know you like this style and you have made an excellent job of these examples!

Wargaming is a broad church with many periods scales and finishes to choose from... which is what makes it such fun.

  9. The gloss finish as hinted earlier gets my vote. Very nice. The curl on the cavalryman's helmet crest is wonderful.

Thanks for the enquiry about my pictures. This should work:
