Shiny Napoleonics... Neuchatel Battalion Test.

Greetings...

After a pleasant exchange with Wellington Man (Aka Matt) on his blog...(The Hinton Spieler... https://thehintonspieler.blogspot.com/ )...about the Neuchatel Battalion I said that I would post some pictures of the unit that I painted up as a test piece when I was starting my Shiny Napoleonics project...

Here they are...

These are Jack Scruby figures...
Available from Historifigs... http://historifigs.com/site/
I have to say that Mike the owner is a splendid fellow to deal with... He has some very interesting ranges...

So... After painting them up and basing them it soon became obvious to me that they just didn’t work that well with all my Minifigs... They are noticeably smaller....Which is why I haven’t got around to posting them before now...

I don’t think that I will keep them... They weren’t by any means a total loss as they helped me finalise how I wanted my basing and infantry units to look...
I have some nice old Minifigs FN56 that should work quite nicely instead... Nor do I mind painting another unit as I really like the colour combination in the uniform...

There you go... Napoleonics... Yes... But not the ones I had planned...

They will be next...

All the best.  Aly

  2. Nice. Back in February I did a Neuchatel artillery battery taken from Uniforms of the Napoleonic Wars by Jack Cassin-Scott - the infantry are on my to-do list when I get back to painting the Napoleonics again.

I am tempted by the artillery battery myself...

  3. Nice work, could you bring them up to Minifigs height by basing them on an extra thickness?

It’s not just the height they are also quite slight... they would probably work as military cadets...

  4. A good test anyway Aly. I'm sure the final Minifig unit will also be fantastic. Cheers Greg

  5. Wonderful! They're the most deliciously vintage soldiers I think I've ever seen. Scruby Snacks, and no mistake.
I take it they're modern castings? If so, I hope that the muskets aren't quite as bendy as the vintage versions!
Best regards and many many thanks,
    WM

I am glad you like them...
Yes they are modern castings... the metal has a lot more tin in it... so not too bendy.

  6. Very shiny indeed. Not my sort of thing but still nice to look at and they have that old school charm about them.

I don’t mind painting another unit that much as I enjoy painting yellow... it is a lovely uniform as well...

  9. They are lovely. Yellow can be a tricky colour to paint and you have got a nice depth of colour on these chaps.

They have served their purpose as a test piece so I don’t mind the prospect of painting another unit...

  13. Aly, these are just lovely! Now I really do want some scrubys! I have tried several times to get a response from Histofigs as previously I contacted them in order to purchase a small selection of Scrubys to compare to the Hintons and perhaps incorporate a few. I was not as fortunate as you and several emails went unanswered. I have too much to paint anyway so have moved on, but someday I may pester you for help. I have half a battalion of Nassauers I think that are Scruby so in particular thought it might be fun to finish them up.

It’s been a couple of years since I bought anything from Histofigs ... but I notice that the website has been updated so maybe they will be easier to reach...

    2. The link to Historifigs is broken. Can you tell me which figures you used for these? Are they Classic Napoleonic 25mm? If so, how do they compare in size with Hinton Hunt Napoleonic figures? Can you post a photo comparison if they are close in size?

    3. The figures I used were indeed the Classic Napoleonic 25mm…
I actually passed these on to Wellington Man at The Hinton Spieler Blog.
He has posted pictures of them in the company of various Hintons…

  14. Beautiful figures. Now I will have to refurbish (or at least touch up the repaint) on the figures that I have (which you helped to identify, on my Battles and Campaigns blog).
